If you get under the truck and look at the tranny the return line is the one that is closest to the rear of the truck when it goes into the tranny. Then follow that line to the front and disconnect it where the hardline turns into a soft line.

Wait@ do you mean the oil cooler on the 3.slow v6's? I just got the gaskets for mine...maybe I'd rather bypass it. How do you recommend doing it?

Nope, there are no 3.slows in this forum and we are talking about the ATF cooler, not the oil cooler. I know the 3.0 guys are so used to chocolate milkshakes but this is a strawberry milkshake. There are now way too many Toyota milkshakes available.

I can see where there'd be a confusion with all the different flavors of milkshakes. Flavors of disaster

so what year models and is it 4 runners only or tacomas?? mileage too.. from reading this, you think the toyota red coolant(which becomes very very acidic over time) could be eating through the atf cooler line IN the radiator??

Good question, someone needs to cut up a failed radiator and inspect to see if its a corrosion type hole or a rupture like a failed pressure vessel. I was thinking the later, with each heat-up and cool down there would be stress on the heat-exchanger as the coolant gets up to pressure.

I agree... let's get some pics up so that we can assess the failure mechanism.

I'd be very interested to see what happened myself.
Someone please do cut one up and take pics for all to see.

How hard would it be to just replace the radiator. I know the OEM is about $550, but you can find them cheaper online. Is it a pretty big job? I'm about to install my hayden 1678 tranny cooler, and thought about replacing the radiator as a precautionary measure if I can find one cheap enough

Did the flushing work for you?

It worked for me ... 30,000 Km later, my tranny is good as new.
Even when towing approx. 4800 pounds the tranny showed no sign of damage.

Good luck to all milkshake Lover

I got a new rad that I am changing as a 100000 mile maintenance item and I will install the aftermarket cooler after the oem cooler. It seems we are on the fence about bypassing the oem cooler in cold climates. It is -28c here right now so the 200 for a new rad is worth the investment. What brand of trans fluid are you guys using for the flush, I am not interested in synthetic for the transmission.

Pink Milkshake on 1997 4runner w/2.7 auto

Are there problems with the pink milkshake on a 2.7l 4cyl auto tranny? Do I need to put it a different aux tranny cooler? See it all the time on the boards with 3.4s but haven't yet on the 2.7. Thanks

That is the million dollar question. I do not believe I have ever seen a thread with the topic addressed.

If there have been no milkshakes with the OEM radiator in the 2.7 with the frequency seen in the 3.4, then what are the variable(s) that are making the radiator leak coolant into the ATF with the 3.4?..............

It's the same radiator in both vehicles and coolant corrosion within the radiator's partition is the problem (I believe), so logically we should see the milkshake problem on both the 2.7L and 3.4L.

I went ahead and installed the cooler on my 2.7L, and I'm about to finish putting one on my 3.4L.
