Hi,

I've read several threads about the DIY tranny flush (using the tranny's own pump while the engine is running instead of a flushing machine) and I want to do it on my '97 4runner 3.4L A/T mainly because I want to change over to synthetic ATF. It seems simple enough to do, but I have not been able to find a post that actually explains/shows where the tranny return line is located. I don't want to disconnect the wrong line. Could someone post a pic?

Also, when I disconnect the return line, is it better to disconnect it from the tranny side or the radiator/cooler side.

And last question: Once I disconnect the line, I will have and open hole on the transmission right? Do I need to plug this hole when the engine is running or does it not matter? Thanks.

is the idea to suck out the fluid from a new bottle and pump the old into another?

Thanks okie81. I see now that there are a lot more helpful pics if you search for "TRD tranny cooler" as opposed to "flushing tranny". This helps me a lot.

As for the open hole on the tranny once the line is removed, Do I need to plug it up while I'm running the engine (will it suck air?), or is it fine to just run the engine and do the flush? ATF won't shoot out the hole?
