You might want to look at this on Dallas Craigslist:

http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pts/1347693385.html

It is a tundra that was rolled. It has the 3.4L and was at 135k when it was rolled. He wants $1500 for the engine and transmission. Some of the controls like the ECU may not work but you are really looking for the mechanical parts anyway. You could swap the block and head and sell off the tranny, and other parts to recoup some money.

Ok, thanks for all the input. One more question. What year engines do I go after or all 3.4 pretty much the same? I assume I need to look for one out of an automatic and does it make a difference if out of a Tacoma?

For a used engine, you're not supposed to go earlier than the year of your truck - it's actually Federal law.

If you are getting a newer-than-your-truck motor, you should get all the electronics that you can because your existing ECU, sensors, etc.. may very well NOT work in a newer block (i.e. sometimes sensors changed a little thru the years and even the thread patterns may or may not be the same). If your old ones do work, great, sell off what you don't need.

It shouldn't matter if it's from a Taco or a Tundra, or if it was a stick or auto...as far as I have been told.
