NEWBIE to Lift Kits - NEED Advise!

As a third time toyota 4runner owner I want to lift my 3rd 4runner and make it a 60% city driver and 40% off roader. I own a 1996 4runner limited 4wd. I have read TOO much on lift kits where everyone has a different opinion. There is Old Man Emu, Daystar, Revtek, Battlez, Cornfed...and then there are those that recommend seperate components. Can someone who has owned a 4runner 3rd gen with minimum 1 year of use on the lift give me the easiest, and most reliable lift "kit" recommendation. I would also like to level the 4runner from front to back. I would like to get 3" of lift. I will add a bull bar and a tire carrier to the vehicle eventually. I will run 265/70/16 winter tires, in the winter and switch to 285/75/16 MT's in the summer. I want a looker aswell as function. I also don't want a hard ride, I would like a comfortable ride. I don't know if my request is reasonable or not considering my lack of knowledge on this topic. PLEASE ADVISE THANK YOU.

PS: if anyone can lead me in the right direction on finding a back mounted tire carrier, almost like my 2nd gen 1990 i first owned.

Thank you for your reply, is it possible that with the "shopping list" you can let me know who is the best "dealer" to purchase all these parts from. Thank You. Of the two recommendations which one do you think would best suit my use of my 4runner. I will drive road and highway 60% and off road 40% on weekends. My offroading would include mountaon gravel roads, quad trails, and small river beds, maybe some light mud bogging?

Thank you

I would PM Steve and ask him to respond to this thread. You may also want to try searching on this subject since it has been covered extensively. There are a few other suspension experts on here too. Maybe one of them will chime in. I do not consider myself a suspension expert, so I am not going to say anything in that regard.

Mike at (XtremeOffroad) seems to be a favorite for parts. I have only purchased a cheap inclinometer from him, but everyone says that he is very reasonable and provides good service on just about everything. I would give him a shot.

Good luck!

Steve's contact info is on his site, but it is strictly for fabrication orders. You can try his email, but with over 55K hits on his site, he may just direct you to the information I alread linked (on his site). Not sure, your call.

http://www.fastq.com/~sschaefer/store.html

If you want to contact Mike, click on the members link at the top of Yotatech and go to "X" - you will see his contact info in his profile.

Again, I would do more searching before you contact Steve because the answer to your question is most likely already on this site. But I am sure people will chime in.

I just want to add that 3" lift up front sounds pretty severe for the CVs.

You may want to hold out for the Tundra coil and custom spacer that Steve & Andy are working it. It sounds very promising!

OR..you can buy my Front Sway-A-Way coilovers in the classified section!
