Epic Ed and ChickenLover

I have a few questions about the problems you both have had with headers. Are the ones you have ceramic coated? If not, do you think ceramic would of made a difference?
Would have a 1" BL helped in anyway with instalation, keeping things from melting, etc. ?

Im looking to get Thorley or Downey headers and would like to avoid the problems you guys mentioned...i would think a 1" BL (more room to breath) and ceramic (reduced heat) would the way to go.

Hey Erik,
My headers are ceramic coated. I think a BL probably would help. I am considering wrapping the part of the header that nearly touches the floor board. Whether you go with a BL, heat shield, inside heat mat, wrap, or a custom bend like Ed, keep in mind that something NEEDS to be done there. One thing is for sure, my passengers never get cold feet when riding with me.

Mine are ceramic coated, and I would agree with Silver that some of these issues are Downey-related. Unfortunately, there are trade-offs with the NWOR headers, too. Customer service, and leaking seal against the engine block are the two I've heard of most frequently. I think the headers are the mod that gave me the greatest performance boost, but it's also the one that has caused the most residual problems. I think a 1" body lift would definitely help with the install and keeping other components away from the heat.

I made a 1.5" body lift for my truck out of UHMW to clear the headers and I have no problems with heat.

ya i agree that the NWOR headers can be kinda a pain to get to seal if you're not takin your time. But as long as you take your time and make sure the head is clean and use a good sealant you won't have any probs assuming you keep the studs tight. If you live anywhere near them, from what I've experienced, you won't have any probs with service...I've even had them buy a part for me themselves then meet me somewhere so I could pay them so as I wouldn't have to pay shipping/wait for the shipping.
