you are right, NO gains whatsoever can be had!!!

and actually, I just realized I have no clue about performance and toyotas and cars or trucks in general.....so why am I typing on here?

if I did have experience, had seen such gains on a dyno etc, I would have known not to be such a sillybee in saying that a late model all fancy computerized vehicle like a Toyota could gain an astoundingly whopping10 - 15 hp with an advanced iginiton system.

oh, here are a couple projects I have hacked together, I put the MSD boxes in for show

the big block is in my dads 68 car should go in the nines

mine has a 302,,,that without the NOS makes 623hp.....but again what do I know hehe....if you think an MSD adding 10 - 15 HP to a Toyota is nuts, I dont know what to tell you about my 302!!

my car should go mid 10s due to the road race type suspension that it has, motor went 9.70s in a 3000 pound Nova...also you can see my friends blown 69 and other projects in the works on my site if you like www.sfaboston.com

Apples and oranges. No one is questioning your expertise or ability to build a fast car, some of us are simply skeptical of a near 10% increase in power on an already efficient (ignition-wise) COC engine. By all means, prove us wrong!

the more things change, the more they stay the same, the same principles apply

MSD will definitely enhance power and performance in my truck I am sure

I will try to prove you wrong

I have to see if I can get it onto the dyno...

Could everyone please give him a chance to put it on the dyno? When was the last time someone put an MSD system from our trucks on the dyno? Maybe there have been improvements ?

Regardless of whether you get 0 or 20 Hp, I would like to see the results. I would like factual proof of whether it does or does not work, not just heresay.

Ok, now I'll ˟˟˟˟

This is a pretty simple process, for the MSD Dis 4 going into a 4 Runner, you follow the wiring diagram for the tach adapter part number 8910.

The tach adapters, which for this application you need two of them, wire inline from where the harness leaves the MSD box en route to the coils.

The diagram I got from MSD is very clear and easy to read.

I received a coil harness with plugs from a fellow YT'er,,for FREE!!!!!

These are the three connecting plugs that plug onto the coil...the MSD has to wire into these for one set of wires, so I will use this spare harness, so that the MSD will plug right onto the coils...

The plugs that originally plugged onto the coils, also need a few of the new MSD wires plugged into them as well...

This is what I am going to do....

For each plug that originally went onto the coils, I am going to cut and splice in an insulated female connector to each negative and positive lead. This way the new MSD wires can plug right in, using male ends...I will re install the original Toyota coil plugs as well, this way if the box ever fails all I have to do is unplug the male / female terminals and re install these original coil plugs onto the coils.....of course after I unplug the coil plugs which have been installed and part of this MSD harness I will have created.

Pictures will follow...I hope this is clear thus far
let me know questions.

Here is a picture of the extra Toyota coil harness and plugs that I got on here, these will be wired into the MSD.

b4r... what does the MSD promise as a deliverable? More spark energy? Longer duration? Ringing?

I run this and am fairly convinced it helps. VERY easy install and less expensive than the MSD.

my claim should be 1-2 mpg and perhaps 10 - 15 hp,,,,alot of doubters here but I have experience with MSD that tells me otherwise

I hope to get my truck in on my friends dyno,,,before and after the install, but this is his busy season, so not sure what will transpire,,,I will post on my progress,,,

taking my time getting it ready, have alot of other projects going but wil finish this before my front bumper fab and winch mount gets going

That's not really what I was asking...

My curiosity is based around specifically what the system is doing to achieve those gains. Hotter spark, longer dwell, ???

Tim, I don't think anyone is writing off the MSD unit right as of yet, but it's human nature for people to be skeptical about how much benefit they will recieve from such an addition (so many products are out there, but so few deliver what's promised). I think I could speak for a vast majority of the curious on YT when I say I do look forward to dyno runs before and after if you can manage to sneak them in.
