I am about to invest in some offroad lights (probably daylighters or ebay knockoffs) and am trying to get a sense of where to put them, I know about the bumper and using Ubolts on the top rack, just wanted to get some pictures. I'm thinking depending on how many I get either 2 on the bumper, or 4 on the rack or both if I end up getting 6.

My only concern with having the bumper mounted lights is having them get covered in mud/snow. My headlights tend to get covered and I have to wipe them off and they are up higher than the bumper!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I have a pair of Rally 55w behind the cab that double as bed lights and off road lights. I have them mounted so I can swivel them to point out to the sides if I need to. Great for camping.

The old rig, my '91 4Runner.



Hella 500s on the roof and bumper.
Hella 500s are under $70 a set, and put out good light.
I may put one of my two sets on the ARB bumper when it goes on the FJ Cruiser.

However...I will not be putting lights up on the rack.
I find them totaly useless.
Whenever I turned them on, they just reflected off the white hood and made things worse.
They looked cool, but offered no function for me.

there's some cheapie neon lights for the ricer crowd I got on ebay. they work well! next time i'd go for the LED ones tho, those draw even less power

PIF 968's mounted on arb. not bad for a budget light..best bang for your buck. only 2 bills CDN. only running the 55's, but the set i got came with 100's & have yet to run them. wish i had 8 inchers..but then it'd cover my satosh perfect size though IMO. on the bumper between the headlights is the best place methinks...







would like to get some rock lights too...but still undecided between strip LED's and tractor floods...

Did you just drill into the front bumper for those? Any clearance issues? What you've got there is exactly what I'm thinking of doing...

no pictures of stock roof rack w/lights? Hey all you front bumper guys, how do the lights handle the mud and dirt, do you have to clean them alot or no?

take a look at my avatar. I've got 3 Hella 500s on my front bumper. they generate enough heat in winter to melt snow off. Never had an issue of rattling them. They are pencil beams, so aim is important as the coverage is narrow.

Yep, straight into the bumper.

Broke a few cheapo drill bits in the process. No clearance issues, I can get a side profile when I get home if you wish. There is a little gap between the grill and the lights, but that was just because I drilled the holes a bit too far out.

I hadn't thought of the heat output thats good, how do you aim them after you drill into your bumper, is can you move the light housing independent of the mount? (hope that made sense)

Yes, the housing is held onto the mount with a separate bolt, you use that to aim them.

What do you think, the guy said he'll throw in 2 harnesses for $30 (that includes all wireing and fuses and switches)
