Point to note: the same procedure can be applied for removing the gas cap.

well, after recruiting my gf's 13 month old cousin, and letting his super penetrating baby druel work it's magic, the shifter handle put up a fight. i had to judo chop it high to stun it, and the really lay into it low. the fight was over before it even started. good thing too! i was about to tie her cousin's binky to it and let him knaw it off.

seriously though! i went out that day at lunch (the truck sits in the sun all day), and gave it a quick tug. came off MUCH easier when the truck was warm. parts for the shifter seat are on their way. however, the truck will hardly stay in third at lower rpms, and 4th feels like it is only engaging half way. so....it is driveway ridden for the next few days until the parts come in from marlin crawler.

here's the write up:

don't ask heath for help. when you do ask for help, expect to be treated like gangus. when you realize you are being treated like gangus....reading you own post. when you think it is safe to read the replies...wait for harsh burns from garrett and "harsh burn wanna be's" from msw. then look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you'r not stupid. your NOT stupid. your SMART! you are SUPER SMART! nope...YOUR STUPID!

you can try watching ebay, see if anyone on here is selling them, or PM member strapp22, who works for Toyota of Dallas and has very good prices for a dealer.

Don't laugh!!

I'm a tech at a car and truck accesory shop, and we had to put a momo shift knob on the company 350Z and couldn't do it. The car had 3k miles on it and we almost took the whole shift lever off and put it in the vise to get it off. We even called the local nissan dealer to make sure we were doing it the right way. we almost destroyed the nissan shift knob with a big set of visegrips. It was a good thing we were replacing it.

Well, if you're still watching this old forum fifteen-plus years after you posted your question, know that that's about how long I've been trying to unscrew the knob on my pickup. Now I'm going to have the seat and headliner reupholstered, and a nice matching leather knob (and steering wheel) would look nice. I may ask the guy if he can just cover the knob in place.
