How much differential fluid?

How much differential fluid?

Hey guys, I just took apart my differential and had to drain it....how much gear oil do I put back in? I filled it w/2 quarts....is that enough?

Most diffs you fill till just below the filler hole, when it is mounted and the vehicle level. If it is the rear diff, 3qts sound about right so you might need more.

Yeah, its the rear. I just read Bob's write-up and it says 2.6 quarts needed for the rear.....I'll go 3 to be safe. Now if I can only figure out how to get the stripped bolt off

is it the bolt head thats stripped? if it is, try hammering on a 12 point socket in the next size smaller than what it should be.. and using a breaker bar... this normally works...

pretaco,

that info is in the back of your owners manual. dont go by my writeup info b/c its a different vehicle. but i think 3 quarts should be plenty. as others have suggested, park on a level surface and pump in the juice until it starts to seep out. and remember, take off the fill plug FIRST and then the drain plug last.

I did almost 3 in my read diff.
