I don't think it's illegal as long as you don't trespass and as long as nobody sees your schlong or it would be indecent exposure. I said above the reason I don't is cause I'm making good time. I've only sputtered once or twice and that hasn't happened since around '99 so I'm wiser now.

About 25 miles, but I'd like to see how far I could push it, but trying to do that in my S10 left me stranded a couple times.

10-20 miles.

There is usually 3-4 gallons still in the tank!

I would never let the light come on. The fuel keeps your fuel pump cool. Running it with little fuel in the tank would increase the wear and tear on the pump.

I hardly ever let the gauge go below one-fourth.

My little idiot light has never worked and yes i do have the leads on the tank for it... maybe the light in the gauge is dead... on my old 87 i used to be able to go another 60-70 kms before it died.

I know what you mean. Almost ten years ago, a semi lost his mudflap on I-5 north of Tejon pass and the metal support part decided to put a nice dent and hole in my gas tank (went right though the skid plate). I patched the hole but ever since then, when my fuel light goes on, I have to get to the gas station within 10 -15 miles or I'm gonna run out ESPECIALLY if I'm climing a grade.

Before the encounter with the mudflap, I went a torturing 73 miles with the light on but that was driving on the long downgrade from Vegas to LA with a STRONG tailwind. I knew there was no exit for miles and I was ˟˟˟˟˟ing bricks the whole way to the next exit that had a gas station. I don't know if you can top that mileage Sabre but you definately get my vote for best Avatar.

Fuel light, what the hell is that? I have never had mine come on and ive had the guage pegged on the E. Maybe its broken?!?

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but the practice of filling up before the gas light comes on does not make sense to me. Junk at the bottom of the tank? Wouldn't that junk get mixed around by simply driving and isn't the pick up at the bottom of the tank anyways?

Yea, I had to do a double take on that one

Back to the subject I get an average of 55 miles after the fuel light goes solid. I've ran my tank dry at least 10 times now and usually carry a Jerry can full of fuel in the back. It's nice knowing just how far you can push it, especially on those long road trips.

It's not a very good idea to push that.... with fuel injection and electric fuel pumps you're doing some serious damage by letting that thing go empty... mainly to the fuel pump... and that's certainly not cheap nor fun to replace! That said, I've only went 10 miles with the light on.... geez I hate losing!

I've gone around 50. I usually get the fuel light around 240 and depending on gas prices and my pay rate at the time, I'll push it untill my bank acount is padded for the blow.

I can get about 315-330 miles on a tank when I had my old tires if I'm light on the gas. (city-ish driving)

same here. plus, the manual says 1/4 left you should fill it back up. there is reasons why they put stuff in the manual.

I think you may have the same problem i have on our gauges (if your truck is 89-94 like i think) there is suposed to be a little light in the upper right corner of the gas gauge if you shine a flash light in to the gauge there is a little red dot that shows up. if you check your owners manual you will see that that is the low fuel warning light. On the sending unit for the gas gauge on top of the tank there should be three conectors if you have these and there are three connectors on the wire harness you have all the buisiness end goodies. i have all them goodies but my light has'nt worked either i'm wondering if i have a missing bulb in the cluster. yea, that;s what I got when I was stock too. now with gears and bigger tires I'm lucky to hit 240 per tank.

Actually it's quite easy to change the fuel pump, I've had mine out once already. With that said, I also have a spare sitting in my garage. In fact I have 2 spare set's of fuel injectors as well.
