88k and never been changed. I started towing 3yrs ago, but I installed a trans cooler 5 years ago. It's inline with the factory cooler plus a remote filter just for good measure.

Got almost 160k miles on 97 SR5 4x4. With the tires i hardly ever put it in O/D due to the motor won't carry it down the road at 75MPH. Some lower gears would help but not for now. Just fluid and filter changes.

I thought this thread was for 95.5-2004 Tacomas & 96-2002 4Runners . The earlier trucks and 4Runners don't have the same tranny so you older gen guys goofed this thread up. Good job guys.

I have a '97 with 130K and all seems well.

Anyone ever had a A/T from a 3rd gen go on them? All of these seem like the best case scenario, realistically if my transmission was abused for 130K, how many miles might I have left?

An abused but taken care of tranny still should see 200k miles IMO but anything can happen as I've seen well cared for trannys go out before 200k but I think it's rare for anyy reasonably cared for transmission go before 200k miles.

176,000 and going strong. I have a 96' 4WD and do a routine drain and fill every 20-30k. Not sure if the pan has ever been dropped and cleaned.

I Currently have 224,000 miles. I have done no maintenance on the transmission since I have owned the truck the last 2.5 years. The truck is a 1996 4runner 4X4 automatic trans with the 3.4. I am debating on flushing the trans or dropping the pan and replacing. From what I can tell there has been nothing other than routine drop and fills from previous owner. Hope I can get close to 300k.

2002 4Runner SR5 with 110,000. Flush at 30k and flush/filter at 105,000. Was having some sloppy shifting from 1st to 2nd around 100k, which the most recent service fixed. No other issues so far!

I'd say the manual trans is more of a liability than these automatics. Great thread on how to mod your box cheaply for firmer shifts that are far easier on the trans.

96 SR5 3.4 4X4 auto..189k took pan off @ 120k and cleaned filter. Still using toyota fluid and runs shifts great. Tow the boat 1700lbs regularly, hit the Mts in winter for skiing and hunting/fishing spots rest of the time...

1998 Tacoma
trd series
6cyl
auto tranny
3in lift with 33's.

Have ran my truck like this since she was at 200,000 miles.
Now she has 310,000 miles on engine and tranny and still shifts like a dream!
My maintance for my engine and trans is simple.

Tranny: NOTHING! If you do not do a trans mission flush on a vehichle from when it came off the show room floor , then you dont want to do one. reason why is, since my truck never had it's fluid changed just added here n there. your tranny gets so use to having the gunk in your tranny fluid that it helps catch gears better so, dont ever change tranny oil unless you have done it since it was rebuilt or brand new.

and for my engine it's simple. I run 5w-30 Royal Purple oil w/ k&n oil filter.
1 week prior to me changing Oil i run half a bottle of seafoam through the engine to clean out any gunk or whatever ( also I do a full bottle to my gas every 1500 miles )
when I do my oil change, I add 1 qt of Lucas Oil additive ( its awesome! ) and then my oil and change my filter.

Truck is in my sig. I just passed 204000 and not having any problems. I drive her pretty rough sometimes especially on trails. She's a tough beast and I'm planning on seeing at least 400k out of her
