How hard do you drive you 4Runner?

Well I have to admit...I broke the 4500 rpm barrier yesterday. I was on the highway and some tractor trailer a$$hole couldn't decide what exit he wanted so he kept blocking me from getting into the other lane so I had to smoke him...I took it out of overdrive and VROOM!! I was VERY impressed at how fast that 4Runner moved...however I'm worried I may have driven it too hard.
The highest the RPM's got were around 4600 maybe...is that bad?

Seriously though, what's the point of that? Your power band isn't like a sports car's, so why do it? If I saw a 4Runner driving like that on the street I would laugh at him and think to myself "what an idiot" (no offence)

Hitting the redline will not cause knocking. I frequently hit mine, and i have over 100k miles on my 4Runner, and Never a knock. Toyota allows the engine to hit that RPM, if it weren't safe, they would set the redline lower, along w/ the rev limiter.

I am with the others, depends on the mood. I will not hesitate to take it to 5500 if I need to, or if there is a ricer that wants some.
Just yesterday a couple doods in a S-10 wanted some. I gave him the hazards after I toasted him in second gear.

I think I'm fairly easy on my 3.slow. I try to keep it below 3K. Sometimes the on-ramp requires a little more ummph so I give her what she needs. I'm just trying to make mine last as it does have 130K miles and is over 10 years old.
All in all, I'd say I'm fairly nice to her when compared to how I drove my Ram.

I redline my 3.0/auto a LOT. I haven't heard any odd sounds/knocking at all. 3.slows aren't so slow at higher rpms, if I press the pedal down, and it revs to redline, how is that bad? The truck is obviously designed to be redlined, or else they would've made the transmission shift sooner in ECT mode. Once you get going, 4Runners go pretty fast.

I think consensus is that parts wear out faster if you rotate them at an increased rate and load.
The good news is that we drive relatively bullet-proof vehicles with iron blocks (most of us anyway). They are actually pretty forgiving, even with ping. Pinging (lean out) at high rpm is really the motor killer that people should be worried about.

SO It isn't Good to REDLINE THE 1994 AUTOMATIC 4runner 3.0L V6? I do it every day :/ It is faster than alot of cars I have raced. I bought this 4runner with 140,000 miles on it complete top end rebuild. BUT is it bad that I bring it to 5000 RPMS? BECAUSE When I push the pedal to the floor it goes there automatically!

Eh, I try to go easy on it...keep the RPMS below 3k when passing or going up hills and I try not to accelerate too hard. If it was a rental or something than I'd probably redline the hell out of it.
