I think he's talking about a rear diff lock in the rear end. Not door locks.

I really don't know how common they are, but around these parts, they are pretty common. Most Tacomas I see around here have the TRD package.

Toyota Racing Development

In 1998 Toyota added a new Toyota Racing Development (TRD) off road package. The package includes off road tires, 16-inch alloy wheels, TRD dampers, a locking rear differential, and the TRD graphics. In 2003 Toyota introduced a TRD sport package on the Tundra full-size pickup. This package was not available until 2003 for the Tacoma. This package includes street performance tires, 17 inch alloy wheels, shocks, race inspired hood, and TRD sport graphics. It is also about 200 dollars more expensive than the original TRD off road package.

the electronic locker is not rare, lets just put it that way. Every single TRD off road edition had it even Pre-runners. Even some 3rd gen 4Runners have it.

Im pretty sure every FJ Cruiser came with an electronic locker. They're the same thing as the one in the tacoma's, and 4Runners. ( still an 8" axle )

so yeah... not rare at all.

I'm referring to the factory rear E-locker offered on first gen Tacomas.

Out here in the land of mall crawlers, TRD Tacomas are VERY common. I can see one from here.

Really depends were you live, and if there is one for sale. I looked for a long time, and all I really did was see them every were but could not find any for sale. Back to the topic, I do see a lot of stickers that say trd but the older the harder it is was to find.

If you are looking for a Tacoma to buy, don't let the locker option be too much of a deciding factor for you. Find the right truck for you, then swap in a locker later if need be.
