Help! No 4wd At All!!!

I have been searching these threads but have yet to slove my problem. I have no 4wd, no indicator lights, no clunks or rough ride. I have checked the 4wd soleniod on the driver side with the engine on, in park, pulled the 4wd lever to 4wd-hi and only get suction on the red/brown port of the solenoid. I don't have 4wd in Hi or low gear. I have heard of people with a 4wd button having issues with a solenoid in the transfer case. Since I don't have a button does this mean There is no soleniod in the case?? This is looking like its going to be a bundle of money since the 4wd control soleniod itself is $400. I'm just praying I don't have to get into the transfer case. Any help would be vastly appreciated. Thanks

to check:
-- place the 4Runner on jackstands
-- inspect the solenoid/t-case wiring for loose connections
-- start the engine and engage 4WD. have another person look at the solenoids and transfer case to see for any movement/response. if there is no response or movement, inspect/check the solenoid.
-- if the transfer case engages but the front diff doesn't engage, check for damaged vacuum hoses or maybe the diaphragm near the crossmember attached to the front diff is loose or damaged

Thanks Roy! Understand, I am a serious Newbie here. Some of this stuff is just plain intimidating. One question, since I dont have a push button 4WD is there a soleniod IN the transfer case that I need to worry about?

On mine, all the solenoids switches are outside the transfer case.

if the solenoids are working when you engage/disengage 4WD, you should be able to hear a click.

HTH

Hey Roy, how are them PI women treat'in ya? Thanks for the response. wonder if it might be a switch on the transfer case? When I shift to 4wd I get no power reading at the engage soleniod plug. Not sure exactly where that relay is that sends power??

the crazy part is that when I bypass the soleniod altogether and manually apply vacuum It still wont engage the diaphram.

Am not familiar about the relays. but you might like to check your fuses first. There are fuses and relays in the engine bay as well as in the driver side kick panel.
