The V8 in the tundra is where a lot of the complaints come from with the tundra actually. Great motor when it runs, stupid expensive and hard to fix when it doesn't. I would swap an LS over that all day. Or the ecoboost V6 Ford.

I agree toyota sucks now days, although the new corolla at least shows a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel and the rumors of a new supra/MR2.

You pretty much summed up my point though, for an off road truck you are better off building it yourself then getting ANY stock truck.

Sorry OP, kind of getting off topic. Don't have any advice for known issues to look for on the tundra.

for the record i'm talking 4.7 tundra, like around the same years as my tacoma was

I've seen a lot with over 200k miles, are the 4.7's and the transmission in them not that good? i'm not too worried about gas mileage as i have a 10 mile drive to work and also have a civic

Former Toyota mechanic here,

The 4.7 is a great motor! Just don't supercharge it (bottom end doesn't like all that boost). But under normal operating conditions they are awesome!

Transmission is fine, nothing wrong with that. It's gonna be an auto though, they did not offer a manual with the V8.

thats the main thing i dislike about these trucks. i did find a 3.4 manual. but i felt the 3.4 wasnt all that powerful in my tacoma, i'd hate to see it in a tundra

looking at this one, one owner, had the last timing belt done about 50k miles ago. older man has owned it and does all service they recommend. he said Toyota replaced the frame in 2012. That is good, but makes me wonder why he is trying to sell it now.
