It can only pass smog if your truck is a 92 or older. The laws say you have to get an engine from the same year as your vehicle or newer and the last year for the 7mge is 92.
You'll need to have all the emission controls in place (obviously) but I'm sure there are going to be a lot of hurdles in CA.

Yep. Still have the headers. But since they are large and heavy shipping them to the US would probably cost as much as buying new ones in the US.

Another thing, you may be dissapointed in power if you go from 3.0V6 to 7MGE. You get about the same about of torque. When you are not pulling, the 7MGE will be much better for dailly driving, will definatly feel more peppy, but when you load it down, it will really bog down. Although, I would be willing to bet, you would get better gas mileage from the 7MGE than from the v6.
Personally I would not waste my time with a 7MGE. With all that work, you might as well go turbo.
Last night I actually did some testing with a new design(top secret) in the downpipe, that from what I can find, no-one has attempted before. Anyway, with this new design, I got a significant increase in power. Before I started, I was open exhaust, 3" downpipe and that was it. Very loud, but lots of power. I built a full 3" exhaust with cat and muffler, all the way to the rear of the truck. This will usually result in the lost off 20-25 hp, sometimes more. With the new design, ant full exhaust, I probably gained about 10hp from the original 3" downpipe. Total of 30-35 hp gain from the mod(if I were to run just a downpipe without exhaust), at stock boost. I can't wait to turn up the boost as soon as we get an intercooler on this thing. Gotta love the turbo.

I have to agree an not using the 7M-GE. Although I'm very satisfied I would go for a 7M-GTE. A 7M-GE has more torque and a lot more horsepower and is really fun to frive, but with such a heavy car you really do need the turbo-torque.
Good news for me is that now everything works properly, nothing has broken (yet) , I have a better fuel economy and a 7M-GTE is now a bolts in swap.
And I think I can get a 7M-GTE engine for a reasonable price now
