CV Boot Replacment

I've been searching around and read a lot about the boots comming apart after lifts on the 3rd gens. I can't seem to find what is exactly involved with putting the long travel CV boots on. Is it a total pain, or should I just keep swapping axles? Has there been a good fix for this issue?

You can get a diff drop or do a manual hub conversion

I've got the Sonoran diff drop. How much of a bitch is it to do the hub conversion? Is there a writeup somewhere?

It's a real PITA unless you are lucky and find a 4wd tacoma spindle assembly with manual locking hubs. Be sure to get ABS or non ABS spindles depending on your application if you go that route.

New, wheel hubs are $130 each, then add about $250 for bearings and seals, then you need some custom built axles (you need to put the half shafts on the ADD type axles)

Nix99 sells a kit for $575 IIRC, comes with the spindles, axles, and manual lockouts.

Here's a good write up but more in depth ones can be found with a search

I think I'll stick with what I got. I don't plan on dumping that kind of dough into this thing right now. Has anyone done the swap for the high angle boots?

Yes, Ive installed high angle CV boots. after tearing boots with the Revtek spacer lift I had installed. Even with the diff drop, high angle cv shafts are a problem.

Got mine from ebay for 40 bucks w/grease. no more torn boots.
