Bilsteins or OME's for daily driving and occasional towing.
I know this is a subjective question but I am looking for the best combination to suit my specific needs for my 2000 4Runner. I just bought this 4Runner with 74K on it and the shocks are pretty much shot.
I have been reading as much as I can find about shocks on this board and almost pulled the trigger on a set of Bilsteins before I started to worry about a harsh ride.
I want a comfortable ride for my daily commute and yet I need to be able to tow a racecar and trailer (3000 lbs.) on weekends. I will also be using the 4Runner for camping but I do not need anything too aggressive for off-roading.
I would not mind a very small lift of an inch or so but it is not really necessary.
I was thinking that the “medium” OME and then a set of airbags in the rear with onboard air for use when towing.
I will also be adding an ARB for its deer deflection capabilities.
All opinions welcome.

I have Bilsteins on my otherwise-stock 2000 SR5 and I consider the ride quite stiff when unloaded, although I prefer it to the mushy ride from the stock shocks. The handling improved dramatically. I tow campers and boats and the Bilstein's are excellent when loaded.
If you drive mostly well maintained roads you shouldn't notice it. I drive a lot of secondary and tertiary roads in PA which are in poor condition and I prefer the handling over the comfy ride.

I have OME HD. I got it because I tow a lot in the summer (boat). The setup holds up great to towing, but when not towing the ride is pretty stiff. I run my tires at 20psi to make up for it and the ride is much improved. I think the OME light duty gear with airbags would be a good setup.
