I need some input for my situation. I have an 00 Limited 4x4 and my brakes/rotors are shot because i get a very bad shudder and shake when the brakes heat up. About 4 months ago my brakes were squealing so I took it to the shop and they said it needed pads. So I had new pads and the rotors turned. Before this my brakes were fine I do not tow anything and do mostly city driving. Since that point however they have gotten progressively worse. I think this is due to the already thin 4runner rotors being turned making them even thinner. My question is would it be better to get OE replacement rotors and pads since i was fine before or should I get the tundra components and do the upgrade? I need new tires soon as well so if you guys who are knowledgable think I would be alright by just going OE then I would save some money for tires that I need later. Just looking to see what some of you guys would do in this situation..

Yes I've searched and read through many of the threads. I understand how to do it and what parts and so on and so forth. I'm looking for someone to tell me for my situation yes I would do it no matter how or where you drive or if its better left to people who are hard on their brakes.

If you're buying rotors and pads, then the only additional cost for the upgrade would be the calipers ($60-80 refurb or find them @ a junkyard for even cheaper).

So as best as I can summarize from your post:
Everything was fine except for brake squeal, no pulsing brakes or anything, just the noise. You had new pads put on and the rotors turned. All of a sudden after that the brakes started shuddering and shaking, but only after they've warmed up from driving a while, and it's getting worse.

When they are cool everything is fine and there is no shuddering or shaking?
Was the brake fluid flushed?
Was the old pad wear normal?

I just upgraded mine yesterday. I've waited two years to do mine because my brake pads were still very good. But the shake just got too bad for me to hold off any longer. It took me about an hour and a half to do.

My shake is gone. I'll rebleed them in a day or two, but so far I love the feel of them. I would recommend doing it even for the everyday driver.

Ok so after reading more and hearing you guys I've decided to go ahead and do the Tundra upgrade. I have one question that I haven't seen a straight answer on. I have an 00 Limited with the factory alloys the ones WITHOUT the split spoke. Am I correct in saying that the 231 mm calipers would fit on mine without wheel trimming/grinding? I know on the split spokes that you have to grind/trim both the caliper and wheel just wasn't sure if that was the case with my wheels as well.

yes they fit on the stock 5 spoke "star" rims. I would 100% recommend them for a DD, they brake so smooth and they provide you with even more confidence. one of the best mods ive ever done.

Thanks man I thought from what I read that they would fit but no one came out and actually said so.

If those are the rims you are talking, thats my truck and its got the 231's on it with zero issues. if you look at the rims. the location where the split spokes need to be ground down is actually pre cut.
