98 4runners rule!
I'm the newbie here on the forum. From Tampa,Florida.
How many of you guys or gals out there got a great 98. I bought mine in April 2003. And love it.
Please list your engine power mods.
I've done the deckplate and am halfway stuck on a isr mod. Do you also recommend pulling the elbow with the deckplate?
Dunno whether to cap the fpr or run it to the pvc plug. How many 98's like this mod. Please reply
Good to meet you all!

I love my 98 as well! I bought mine in May 2003 with 12,000 milses. As far as I'm concerned, aesthetically speaking, this was the high water mark for Runners. I'm not too keen on the 4th gen style and the 99-2002 models got that ugly bumper protrusion. 4runners just don't seem to have chrome bumpers anymore either. Good luck with all your mods! Here's a shot of mine pulling a MAJOR load across country.

Bob_98SR5 here, and yes, I love the 98. Having had a 99 and no where ever in love w/ the ugly front bumper redesign, I know what Jeff is saying. Furthermore, the 99 had that nagging little fuel gauge problem too.
However, the nice things about the 99 included a center cupholder (which i retrofitted into my 98) and a much quieter cabin (which i took care of as well).
Cubera, take a look at my articles at http://www.4runners.org Every article will apply to your vehicle.

I got a '98 but I like the later front bumper treatment better actually.
I had the elbow mod before I did the deckplate mod but once I did the deckplate mod I put the elbow back to stock because it's not needed any more, plus if you do any 4Xing around water its nice to be able to cap the deckplate mod and seal up the airbox as best as you can.
I also did the ISR mod but I ended up putting the stock pipe back on mainly due to the noise level. It was just too loud for me at WOT.
Did you apply for another credit card yet 'cause you're gonna need it if you hang around here too long?

Load her down Jeff M. Can't hurt a 4runner.
My ride is ditto to your color except for the killer mileage on yours. I got 78,000 on mine. . More chrome on mine. Will post pic sometime.
Wasn't hip on the bumper protrusion either. Found mine in Miami for $11,000.
Bob 98 from my hometown, born in Long Beach,Cali.
All my cousins, uncle live in Baldwin Park Area.
Thanx for the link.
Bring on the 98 4runner linx fellas. Thanx again.

Yeah, '98s are bad ass. I have just done the elbow removal and some other small stuff. One thing i would recomend is upgrading to the newer headlights.

Another 98'er here!
If you want a TON of pics of mine and some trail pics etc. check the links in my sig. There are tons of great mods here, and swede is right. You will find your back pocket thinner than ever if you hang around here enough.
Happy modding!

Welcome to the forum.
I have a 97 SR5 that I am adding mods to for the trail.
I also have a 99 Limited that the wife drives and dotes over.
I think the 98 is a good choice of year and model.
I will be adding a TJM t-15 to the 97 soon (hopefully).
Then I will try putting the chrome front bumper from the 97 on
the 99. Should be an interesting project. I do not like the
front bumper of the 99 at all.

I tried to tow my stuff in a uhaul just like that and couldn't make it out of AZ.
Cost me a bundle to have someone else move it but oh well.
Unless they have a supercharger, the 4runners really don't tow well at all.

Another '98 here...
I bought mine in July '03 with 55k on the clock. I just hit 67k last week. I have never been happier with a vehicle. I've done the deckplate, ISR mod, custom exhaust for performance. I am lifted with OME shocks and coils...and its bright friigin red, too!
Cheers, Cubera, and welcome to the forum!

i think 98 was the best year
it was the first year with the 4-spoke stering wheel, i like it much better than the 2-spoke one. and the front bumper looks so much nicer than the 99 and up ones. plus the E-locker was still an option in 98, so i think its the best year of 4runners aside from 85.

Welcome to the forum.
Be sure to stop by the Member's Rigs Gallery located in the Community section.
There are a ton of Toys in there, and I'm sure a few 98s are in there as well.
