92 to 94 engine swap

day,

I'm looking into this a little to late but hopefully not too late.

I bought a 94 pickup jt4rn13p5r7064964, no engine, good remainder of vehicle

I have a 92 pickup that starts jt4rn01p, good engine, body shot

where do I look for info to try to ensure myself that both trucks have the same transmission, that's the only thing I can think of that could cause a problem with the engine swap.

Any other considerations? I'll consider taking the ECU to the 94 but I am most concerned with the tranny, clutch plate diameter? I hear they may have gone to a larger clutch plate in 93 which likely won't mate with the flywheel on the 94?

Anyone with some experience with this wouldhelp a lot !
Thanks,
Pete

you don't need model numbers to figure those things out...

though i'm assuming they're the 22R-E engine, from the "RN" in the model code...

if we're talking manual trannies here, the clutch and flywheel were upgraded in 1992, so you should be fine. if you have manual hubs on both of them, the tranny is a W56, and even then, any manual isn't gonna make a difference.

only thing is that in '93 or so they went to an electric speed sensor rather than a speedometer cable so you'd have to swap the sensor in or just bolt on your transfer case if you're swapping trannies. the ECU isn't going to make a difference between manual transmissions.

the easiest, most surefire way of swapping in a different year 22R-E is to just strip the engine down to a long block and bolt on the intake manifold of the newer truck. however, between '92 and '94 the ECU and harness are probably the same.
