4Runners in Germany.....

Anybody know if they sell 4Runners in Germany as Hilux trucks? Or as anything else? I am in the AF and being sent to Germany, and I am taking my 4Runner, I just wonder if it will completely stick out or if they have them there.

Also anybody think I can sell it for more there than over here? Is it possible to drive a truck that size easily in Germany?

The other problem is I have a Pioneer AVIC-N1, but in Europe it is sold as the AVIC-X1. I am hoping the DVD region thing is the only difference, I would rather just buy the Europe Navigation Disc and use my N1 in Europe. Anybody have any experience taking a US model DVD based navigation system overseas?

Any comments at all?

The trucks are just called the "Hilux" and the 4runners the "Hilux Surf". Look here: http://www.brian894x4.com/FOREIGNTOYOTAMAINPAGE.html

I have a European deck and the tuner goes with .5 increments on the FM range. North American decks go like 95.1 95.3 95.5 etc. My deck goes like 95.10 95.15 95.20 95.25 etc. I guess you might miss some radio stations. My deck also has LW (long wave) reception. You won't get anything with it here afaik. The size of the vehicle is not a problem. A lot of Mercedes, BMW, and Audi models are longer and wider then our 4runners.

Finally a question I can answer. I am in the USAF also stationed in Germany. Yes they do sell them over here but they are not that common. Yest it is easy to drive them around Germany and Europe for the most part. I know a few people that I am stationed with that have Suburbans and Expeditions, now they are a little too big for over here. As for you AVIC-N1, you should be able to get the Eurpoe disc and use it over here no problem. You will have a problem with the radio stations thogh, as Arjan stated. As for selling it for more over here...maybe maybe not. Since it is a U.S. spec most people don't want them. Now if you bring a Harley over you can pay for your kids college if you sold it over here. Hope this helps.

So where are you going to be stationed? Spangdahlem, Bitburg, Ramstein?....

There is a market over here for those vehicles. I live close to Germany, only 1 mile, and there are several cardealers who specialize in US import. They only sell US vehicles and they take care for the paperwork. Maybe a thought?

Ha I actually bought my runner while I was stationed over there (actually I was stationed up in Holland). I was going to ALS in Bitburg, and made the hour trip a couple nights in a row to broker the deal. There is a dealer in K'town that sells imports (AAFES will only sell american) for straight MSRP cost, all American spec. and straight from the factories (though you can't get any dealer or port options). I ended up paying 27999 for a brand new 97 SR5. I had the head gasket recall done by a local Toyota dealer in Holland, they had no problem doing it even though the ones they sold were all diesels. I drove it there for three years before coming back stateside, it did just great toting me up skiing through the Alps. Here's a pic from Austria, boy it looks like a completely different truck now:
