3in. body lift, negative affect on shifter?

I put a 3 in body lift on my truck, and now I can't shift into 4 wheel high or low and have the 4-wheel stay engauged. I have welded the extensions on both the short shifter and the regular trans. shifter but it seems like the boot is restricting the shifter or is it? I'm getting ready to tear into the transfer case to see if the keepers are gone? Any suggestions? I really could use some help on this one. Thanks in advance.

You angles are probably off a little bit since you put in the extensions. When I did mine I found that, with the now off angle of the shifters, the bunching between the shifter and body and literally pushing the lever out of gear. To find if this is the case, pull off both boots and see how it works, add the inner boot and test again, add the outer boot, test again.

There is also this option, Marlin Short Throw or Roger Brown Short Throw. I have the Marlin offering for both tranny and case and am really happy with them, though they do tend to scrunch against each other a bit. The short throw of these things is really cool, but note that Marlin and Roger go about them in two different ways.

just cut the boot. That's what I did, and everything works just fine. Also required is a slight trimming of the plate that holds the inner boot down. This is what causes the main interference for the 4WD shifter. You do get a bit more noise and hot air coming through the holes in the rubber boot, but that is easily fixed with some added material to the inside of the outer leather boot. Good luck.

Cost $0.00, unless you need to buy a type of insulation, or just get some off a friend who had extra dynomat.

Thanks a bunch. So it's the boot that's causing the problems then and not something in the transfer case? It seems to work fine if the boots are all off, but I didn't like the noise I got with them removed, I guess I was hoping it was something else. I'll try working with the boots a little. Thanks
