3.4L Head Gasket Service Campaign ending

Just wanted to let everyone know what i found out about the service campaign for replacing the headgaskets on the early 3.4L engines. I need to register my US vehicle in Canada so I have to go through the crappy process of importing the vehicle and one of the regulations is that all recall service campaigns have been done. Mine was one of the lucky ones and never did leak but I spoke with Toyota Corporate and was told that the Campaign has a limited service time to it and that it will expire at the end of November. So this means that if you want to have them do it at all, then get it done now.

Where can you go to verify that your 3.4 is covered or needs it? I have a '99 and have had no problems...just turned over 80k the other day.

Thanks!

I think the problem affected '95 T-100's, '95.5 Tacoma's, and '96 of all models with 3.4L only. I could be wrong but I think your '99 is fine.

I'm sure someone will chime in with exact affected years...

Yes, you should be covered. Call a trusted dealer with your VIN, and ask if the HG campaign has been done. I had mine done by the shop foreman, and they gave me a Corolla S rental car for two days. All free of charge.

It is also a good time to have the timing belt done - and any other related maintenance item that is in the way (drive belts, etc.)

Mine was not leaking, but I was eligible, so I went for it.

The service campaign is for the states, I was talking to Toyota Corporate USA not Toyota Canada.
My car is a US vehicle and needed the US recalls done before I imported it.

i have a 96 limited. Think it'd be a good idea to call the dealership and get it checked?

Get the VIN checked or the HG checked? Just have them check the VIN and get it done if it is eligible, otherwise they may screw with you.

There are 2 ways to verify what has been done or not....

1) go to the dealer and have them check it out
2) call Toyota Corporate US and give them your VIN number (they will tell you all the recalls not completed)

I will try to post the Corporate number when I get a chance.
