hello all, so my 4runner had the symptom again, but upon further reading of 97ltd,s post about the iac, i think i will pull it off once again and clean more thoroughly. i think the o-ring should be ok to re-use after only 2 weeks right. you see, mine was very gummy in there, and i did not follow instructions proper. i just sprayed carb claener in there a few times without turning with a screwdriver or using small brush or q-tip. just carb cleaner. so i think it is still plenty dirty in there, but this time i will be thorough. the stumble and stall symptom happened only once, two days after cleaning.

Sounds like the IAC is your problem. I just sprayed mine down and let it sit over night before I brushed it with a toothbrush. I would only soak it if you take off the solinoid part (the green plastic piece where the wire connection is). I am paranoid of getting electronics wet.

oh yeah, my fuel milage seems to have suffered a little since the cleaning . on 10/25 14.06 g. got me 223.9 miles for 15.92 mpg, on 11/22 15.4 g got me 252.2 miles for 16.38 mpg, after ceaning on 11/28 7.06 g got me 92.9 miles for 13.13 mpg and on 12/10 15.63 g got me 228.3 miles for 14.61 mpg. also i have developed a descent leak between engine and trans that covered the bottom of everything in oil. i removed the inspection plate and torque converter and flexplate are completly dry but inside bottom of bell housing is wet. dried and cleaned best i could. cant tell if engine oil or tranny fluid because it was caked with dirt and road grime. my back oil pan bolts seemed a little loose so i tightned them all. i swapped out the tranny about 7-9 months ago along with converter and flush cooler and lines because girlfriend didn,t notice tranny slipping until way to late. lots of shiny stuff with black fluid. anyways, the rear main seal looked completly dry at the time of the swap. i left plate off and have been driving for a week now. will take a look today and see if loose bolts on pan was source. will inform later. and that little foam gasket thing that goes over top of inspectoin plate, that thing was crispy and ruined. is this piece required. i guess dust and dirt will be able to make its way in there if its not there. later

ok, i crawled underneath and its basically dry. by that i mean very light coat in area of question. i think residual from not cleaning real good. so slightly loose oil pan bolts caused leak. easy fix. i like. f L O

that a big 10-4 ron. proper diagnosis can be very difficult, which is why i spend my time asking these nice folks for advice and yes, getting plenty of help.

well, i finally got around to properly cleaning my iac valve 2-3 weeks ago. running perfectly now. i never touch the throttle pedal while starting and during hard braking, no stalling. very nice. i actually fixed a problem that normally i would have let go for ever because i simply wouldnt have known what to do. thanks all 97ltd for the advice.

This is such a GREAT thread, without i would be getting nowhere really fast. I cleaned the AIC with carb cleaner and all my problems went away. I'm going to fully disassemble the throttle body so I can thoroughly clean it!
