03 Head Room?

Has anybody tried a 03 w/out a sunroof vs. a sunroof? I checked out two local stealers but they just had the sunroof version...I end up looking through the tint and my head hits the top...

no bueno on the sunroof

Without sunroof you have a lot more headroom. I would guess about 2 full inches. It's a big difference.

head room

Did you adjust the seat height?

I'm 6'4" and just bought an '03 SR5 with sunroof, no problem with head room. Just wish the rear view mirror was a little bit higher.

FROSTY, the brochure says headroom in a sunroof vs. non-sunroof truck is 39.1 vs. 39.7.

tank_bmb, did you adjust the mirror up at both pivots? There's a ball and socket at each end of the mirror arm. First pivot the mirror housing downward at the mirror end so it's pointing towards the floor. Then raise the arm up towards the ceiling at the windshield end, and finally adjust the mirror for best rearward viewing. It'll give a better view in both directions.

yeah, I noticed the headroom issue. my wife has the sunroof and I am used to my runner. when I am driving and I lean forward to readjust the boys or just scoot up in the chair I knock my head into the ceiling. that doesn't happen in my runner. there are a few quirky little things that I don't like about her '03.

adjusting the mirror

Bob,

Looks like what you said will work. However, I tried to adjust the arm and the thing would not budge. It is definitely at the lowest setting. Any suggestions?

Maybe the SR5 has a different mirror bracket? I just checked mine again and didn't see any friction adjustment anywhere, so it should pivot freely. Unless it's a different bracket for the electronic mirror on the Limited only.

adjusting mirror

It definitely looks like it should be able to move. The back side of the ball joint (side facing windshield) has a pin in it which is limited to vertical movement by a slot. The pin is all the way at the one end of the slot. (meaning it is on the low end).

I was afraid I might break it, but I used enough force that the mirror came off of the mounting bracket. Then plenty with the mirror off.

I'll probably stop by the dealer and check it out.

got it!

I figured I'd give it one more try before going to the dealer.

Took off the mirror and finally got it to budge, it was locked up somehow. Works much better now though.

Much, much better view. Now I can actually see to the right.

Thanks for the tip Bob - probably saved me a wreck.
