prerunning4x4's 1991 Pickup Build-Up Thread
Sorry if this thread is moving slowly, or not a whole lot being done at once, but remember i am only 17 with only a weekend job. Though, I do all my work and learn along the way.
Okay, first and foremost, the reason i got this truck (Possibly a blessing in a huge, ugly, and unnecessary disguise.):
What it looked like:
I know, what a real A!@ to run a red light, and plow into me after i had literally that day detailed it, put in new spark plugs, and filled it with premium gas. Not only that but over the month before, got a new alternator, brake pads, and window tint.
Any way, i ended up with this beauty:
Got it for 2K from my grandpa, 50k on a rebuild 3vze
[B]edit[/B
Oh wait, i forgot to add, on the way home... from picking her up... the clutch burned out. Yes, good lord that sucked... so my dad and i dropped the tranny two days later after small prep work , then threw a new one with all the components in. Thanks dad, haha. So at this point i had waited 2 weeks for my new truck after i bought it but she runs great now though!!!!!!!
Did some audio work first, Installed the 3.5'' (i think) speakers in the dash, Kickers.
Then i needed some output over 15 watts so i took my kenwood deck with direct ipod hook up CD and HD radio and plugged away for a night.
Final Product:
That Electrical tape up on top, was the product of frustration and the sheer fact that the clip behind it would not go in, so i cut it off. i will file it down next time when i put my sub in but for now, i will live.
You and i both know that only having dash speakers, is hell. So i got 6x9s.
With boxed, no mod required, which makes my life, a hell of a lot easier.
:
The shall suffice till i have $400 laying around for a 10 inch JL sub and amp, which i had my eye on for years now.
Now, i can take my new baby out for a spin and some wheeling.
She feels good, real good. Im really impressed.
So those rims were putrid.
That was one fun afternoon, lets just say my pops had a few to many to drink.
So, now i have to smog it, the emissions test wasnt lookin good, so a new K&N filter fixed her up to pass.
Not much later, i did the wires and plugs, ngk plats.
EDITED
Next will be:
All around armor... bumpers and sliders.
New CB antenna.
Skidplates.
Lockers.
Tires.
Different body repairs, mods.
Shocks, and half shafts.

I have done some wheeling, just to more so get the feeling for my truck and what is more necessary before i buy, so here are some pics to entertain, i was up on the Wild Animal Park service road near my house and found this blocked trail, that i got the chain off of and checked out, we saw some horses but beside that it was free land to me and some dang nice wheeling with all levels of trial.
There was a cool place to try the rocks out, i got up a little, but until my rig is better prepared im keeping aware that it is my daily driver.
The view was so nice.

And tomorrow morning, I am doing the spark plugs, wires, and maybe the fuel filter, then taking the rear mud flaps off the painting the fender flares in the rear black. We'll see how things roll out. Stay posted.

Thanks man, any recommendation on what kind i should get? I'm assuming you have experience with already replacing these on your 92, and should i do it before or after my exhaust system?

With how great i am doing, i dont think that much more on the truck is necessary except all around armor, skid plates, winch, and tires, not even a size up. it works so greaat!

WELL, yesterday i got the ever so happy beloved battery, and brake light combo. So, not knowing what it is, and my battery being from 07 i replaced that... Guess what it was not the problem. Whatever, i needed it anyway. So then they ran the test at autozone, my alternator was bad, so there was one in stock and i ran home and put it in. Ran back and got the core money back! that made the day better, anyway, heres some pics to keep you all busy. Oh and i finally put my whip on too. and painted it from blue to black
it took longer than i wanted, but i got it out.
and its in with the new battery!
whip
yeah also guys if this takes longer than you wanna wait, sorry. Im 17 with only a weekend job, i do do all my work though and just learning as i go.

Haha I like this. I'm in the exact boat you are. I'm 18, just graduated and I have a part time job. Bought myself a 4runner and I'm learning as I go. So it takes me a while to get any money to actually do something to it. Anyways, pretty cool so far. Would look really good with some new tires and wheels!
