Yeah highly unlikely it's a "crate" motor since the 5VZFE longblock ordered from Toyota is around $7k alone. More likely a donor from something else.
But congrats regardeless... it's a great deal.

What I meant by "crate motor" is it's a low mile motor probably from Japan. Around here we have engine importers.
To clarify, I meant "never ran" in this truck before. Yes it's a used motor, I'm positive on that. More than likely it's a 50k imported from Japan where the smog laws are very strict
Thanks guys
The truck needs a lot of attention and I'm missing quite a few parts including the manifolds and exhaust crossover (I'm considering getting headers and running duel exhaust)
it was missing the MAF and all intake piping.. I got a used Injen cold air intake with MAF on ebay for $50 (the MAF alone costs that much or more)
Interior is in pieces and missing some parts
back window is shattered
tail light and corner light broken
missing drivers side fender
needs new tires too
But overall.. for $1000 I'm quite happy with it Especially since I had just sold my '89 standard cab 22RE 4x4 for $2000 and got what I wanted! (actually I wanted a '99 tacoma.. but this at least has a '99 tacoma motor in it lol)

Couple of updates
I got a MAF and a Ingen cold air intake system (my truck was missing all of that, so I went ahead and did the upgrade to the Ingen system)
Got my missing fender at pull and save
Still debating on what to do about the exhaust.. most people who do this swap have the manifolds from both the 5VZ and the 3VZ and can customize them both to work.. I have neither system since the truck didn't come with them.
I'd like the rig up a duel exhaust but I figure that might be a problem since the cat has two O2 sensors on it on the one side.. So I think I might just do a single and either use the stock 5vz exhaust on the passenger side (3vz is on the drivers side) and either cross it over under the truck to the drivers side or maybe re route the whole exhaust on the passenger side. I might be able to find a donor tacoma and just do the entire exhaust the tacoma type. Might be the easiest and cheapest rather than trying to swap sides? Any ideas?
