Looks Great!!

Are you running 2 sets of stock 2.28's?
Was you're Tcase already a top-shift? If not, who's top-shift conversion kit did you use? I need one for my build up.

Before you install it, will you measure the distance between your shifters for me? I'm trying to get an idea of where my second stick will end up in the cab. I'll have the same forward shift crawl box setup.

Thanks in advance!! I know that's asking a lot.
Grant

Yup stock gears in both cases. Well at least untill I save up enough for 4.70s
The rear case was already a top shift. I got it out of an 86. The top shifts are harder to find in good condition though
Ill take a measurement and get back to you tomorrow

Sweet! Thanks A Million!
I have a forward shift (the price was right) sitting in the shop, ready for tear-down, and the stock forward shift in the truck.

Its right at about 10 inches.
Do you have a forward shift tranny?
How do you like 5.29s with 33s?

Ya, I have a forward shift tranny, so like your's there will be considerable distance between the shift levers. But I'm in the process of designing a "remote shift lever" for the rear box. That way the lever essentially sits on top of the crawl box and has rods that reach back to shift the rear box. Ideally, the "remote shifter" will be the cover plate on top of the crawl box and be in about the same location as a stock top shift would be. That way I don't have to replace or cut my bench seat. That's the idea anyway, We'll see if it pans out that way or not.

As far as the 33's and 5.29s. I would not recommend them for a DD. But as a weekend wheeler, the seem ok so far. I've just barely broken them in and I haven't had a chance to wheel it this way yet. But I Know they will be Awesome!!
However, on the freeway, I'm registering 79 on the speedo, when I'm actually doing about 70. This set up is about 14% lower than stock w/ 4.10s and stock tires.
I was planning on going to 4.88's, but ran the numbers and decided they would be about 10% higher than stock gears when/if I ever stitch to 35s (10% is about the same as running 31's on a stock truck w/ 4.10s. Which I did for a couple years w/o issue). I've both been told and run the numbers for myself and 35s with 5.29s will put the gearing similar to stock. Since installing the 5.29s, I decided I will go to 35s for my next set of tires. I had been on the fence about it until I bought the gears. I know I'll need to make some changes to the truck to fit them but I've already moved the front axle forward 1.5". I think/hope Thats about the biggest mechanical change I'll have to make to fit them.

Right before i bought my 33s, I bolted my buddies 35x14.50R15 PitBull Rockers on to see what it looked like. . .

I've since leveled the front and moved the axle.

Sorry, I'm not trying to hi-jack your thread. Thank You for measuring that!

How's the install going??

Thanks for the info. As of right now the 85 is my DD so with 5.29s and 33s my top speed probably wont be too good. I dont do much freeway driving anyway though.
Do you have a pic of your interior with the shifters? How much farther forward is the tranny shifter?

When you asked about having a forward shift tranny, were you refering to the transmission shifter or the transfercase shifter?
As far as I am aware, there is no difference in the positioning of the transmission shifter. I believe it's the difference of the transfercase shift lever being on top of the t-case (topshift, like your t/case) or being "forward/remotely" located on the back of the shifter (like your crawlbox shifter).

These aren't very good pictures, sorry. But here's what I was able to quickly take with my cell phone.

BTW When I installed the 5.29s. I think my mileage went up a little from where it was down to with the 33s and 4.10s. But it's still not good, I think around 13-15 vs 11-13, somewhere in that neighborhood.

Right on thanks for the pics. I was thinking that the shifter for the transmission was further forward. Thats great though as I thought I was going to run into clearance issues.
What kind of hand throttle is that?

LOL Non-functioning. . . It's just a friction shifter of a bike. But the cable broke where I attached to the top of the throttle cable, so it's not working right now, one of the few things I need to fiddle with. But it works good for winching, starting on a slope, or warming up. It doesn't have enough range to be a "Cruise Control", which is illegal anyway.

So you're converting to a 5 speed at this point as well? How's that going?

So I got everything in this last weekend and drove it to work today. I love the 5speed!
Only problem is that it makes alot of noise in 3rd and 5th gear.
Looks like the transmission has got to come put again : (. Whats a decent rebuild kit?

I wish I could tell you. : { I know Marlin Crawler sells good Rebuilt transmissions, but they aren't cheap. http://www.marlincrawler.com/transmi...built-complete
Do You have a local salvage yard around?

Marlin Crawler's website has the kits listed: http://www.marlincrawler.com/transmission/rebuild-kit But there's an "attention" notice saying they are not currently selling rebuild kits.
Trail-Gear probably has them. . .

And I've actually been pretty pleased with some of the prices I've found for parts at my local Toyota Dealer. . . I got nearly everything to rebuild my buddies 22RE there.
And it's pretty cool that the guy I always deal with is building an 84 : )

Good Luck!!
Let us know what you find. I'm thinking I'll have to rebuild mine at some point, its got only got about 400,000 miles on it. Probably all original, though the motor has been rebuilt/replaced twice.
