85 SR5 regular cab "street worthy"
Time for another one!! Gotta make it my own. I picked it up yesterday and its in pretty good shape. Has a few problems such as no A/C, ignition doesn't work(PO put a push button start in it), steering has a lot of slack in it, some surface rust in door jambs. I love this truck, by far my favorite year model!
I've had many trucks and built a few. My dad has had more than I could ever imagine.(he used to be a Toyota Master Tech) So I know my way around the trucks and a familiar with them. Just can't believe I just found this site a few weeks ago. Glad I could take part and look forward to the builds. I used to be a member of CottonLand Cruisers(have had 4 FJ40's). Time to make a nice driver for me and maybe pass this one off to my son one day.(if he's lucky lol)
PLANS:
-rebuild steering(maybe highsteer)
-replace bushings in springs
-4" rear springs(PO has blocks for now)
-back to stock front bumper
-back to EFI
-rebuild front knuckles
-paint(white with new sr5 decals)
-linx bed and side rockers
-minor details(clean and paint)
-clean carpet and door panels
-anything else that I might change

I like the stock look better to be honest. This truck probably won't see that much trail riding for a few years anyway. I have a few things to sell as soon as I get 15 post lol

ha ha, I agree! I think the PO was using them for steps rails and sliders. They were not done very well to serve the purpose of sliders. I'll have to get some close up shots of the mounting points. They are going to have to be re-done.

That's what I want to do, just have to have the funds to do it lol. As soon as I get some parts sold to start funding the build I will. I just want to drive this thing now before I start tearing it down to do the mods. When I get this V6 5 speed tranny and transfer case sold, that will fund the high steer mod. I will have to get with the rabbit as soon as I'm able. He will be hearing from me soon I hope!

Yea you can thank the PO for that one. Sorry for not much on the updates. Trying to get the garage cleaned a little and getting a few ducks in row. Should start on the tear down this week.

I got it here and hasn't been driven since I brought it home! The steering is way to far gone! The plans change everyday for this truck, but there is something always in mind.

Well when you think your going one direction, someone on CL has put a deal up and that you just cant pass up. So, this is where this part comes in
Yep, the plan is to build this motor and get it all ready to go into the 85 and do an engine swap one weekend. She should see the machine shop late next week.
and the PILO PARTS begins!
Here she is covered waiting to drain the oil to finish getting ready for the ride. I would have let her drain tonight, but a friend borrowed the oil drain pan and has yet to bring it back. I'll be going Monday to get it back.

Is that a Camaro or Firebird fender I see in the background?
Having a bedliner in the bed does help prevent damage, I would suggest pulling it out and cleaning under it as alot of dirt gets under there. I have pulled enough debri to fill a 5 gallon bucket from under those bed liners. Also you would be suprised at what gets in behind the factory side panels on the inside of the bed. Not a bad idea to pull those off once in awhile and get what is in front and behind the wheel wells.. That is why you see alot of the rust on the beds.
Great looking truck and wishing you the best on the motor. I hear you on loaning stuff out. Seems like it doesnt make its way back unless you go get it.
