You have some great looking trucks. The 85 is coming along nicely. Great job and looking forward to what comes next.

Thanks man. Yea it was my first time it wasnt very hard to learn. Theres alot of prep work tho. I used some cheapo paint. Its the DIY duplicolor stuff at autozone lol. I bought a paint gun for my air compressor at napa for 40 bucks. If I end up painting again ill spend a little more for some higher quality paint.

alright guys my worst nightmare has occurred.

My friend and I were cruising through an intersection at 50 mph when a car coming the opposite direction turned in front of us causing us to collide head on. We hit at full speed no brakes applied.

Warning my fellow toyota fans!

Yes I had my seat belt on, but due to the notorious looseness of their retracting device, it didnt catch me soon enough. But it did manage to keep me off the pavement and alive. My friends seat belt held great he has an imprint of it bruised into his chest. Please make sure if you walk out to your trucks and see your seat belt hanging out of the door to make sure its nice and tight, otherwise you may regret it.

the frame is shot

Its buckled like a noodle and the front cross member is snapped in two. Im very depressed because finding a nice frame is near impossible here in ohio. The tie rod bent back and dented the front diff. Anyone know if the diff will be alright? Heres a pic

Unfortunately, my sr5 seats are broken, the dash is spidered, and the steering wheel column is smashed up into the gauge cluster. As depressing as it is seeing my truck this way I refuse to let the insurance total it out. I will be fixing it as soon as I can turn my neck. I have a frame that has some rot holes on the drivers side that I will be welding up. I also have this cab left over from my parts truck.1985 xtra cab build-ihd92n2.jpg
If I could replace just the front clips I will anyone have any info on this?

i'm sure you could just cut/grind out the spot welds where the fenders meet the firewall and take it off as a whole. IF not cut it off and just weld it on

1985 xtra cab build-pbyvcdg.jpgIn the meantime I've been working on my trail truck. Here I cut out some cancer, welded in some fresh steel, and slapped some mud on the bed.

Glad to see you didnt get hurt worse then you did. It could of been worse and wishing you a speedy recovery. I could keep an eye out here for you for a extended cab frame if you would like. Doing a frame swap isnt nearly as bad as some might think. I havent had to replace the inner front fenders, but about a foot in front of the firewall, it does look like a place to drill out the riviets and possibly remount the replacement inner fenders.

When it comes to drilling out spot welds, you can get a good spot weld cutter from Harbor Freight for about $6. It is well worth the investment over just using drill bits. The firts time I drilled spot welds with drill bits and then bought a spot weld cutter, it was so much quicker and easier. I am still kicking myself in the butt for that one.

Just hate seeing something like that happen to your truck. Had it been something you really hadnt cared for, it would of never happened, get something nice and seems like every careless driver is out on the road.

Finding an extended cab frame is going to be tough and then finding an 84 or 85 is going to be tougher. You would be surprised at what a frame shop can do. I cant really see how bad the frame is bent and it may not be possible to save. Hope insurance helps cover alot of the repairs for you.

After doing some quick sanding and painting on the bed, I slapped on some 35 km2s. 1985 xtra cab build-rijth3c.jpg
They do rub when turning at full and when hitting bumps. Ive already started fabbing a "spring/perch/pin relocater thing" so I can move the axle forward 1.5 inches. Hopefully it will suffice until I can do a full RUF.

Thsnks alot terry87. I second the "Had it been something you really hadnt cared for, it would of never happened, get something nice and seems like every careless driver is out on the road." Comment. Its so true. But if you do come across an 85 frame or even an ifs xtra cab frame I would love to have one. I was doing some more observing on my frame and it might be salvageable if a frame shop can bend it close to normal then I could weld in a new front crossmember. I may be able to even bend/hammer the inner fenders back close enough to make it work. I cant try until the insurance adjuster comes to look at it though. But Im just thankful no one died or got seriously injured. And honestly i think the truck held up pretty well for the impact.

If I do drill out the spot welds ill take your advice and use the right tool this time. I dont know how many hours I've wasted trying to jimmy snap rings and other duhickies only to get frustrated and end up buying the right tool anyways.
