Thanks for that info. Someone had told me it was called a ZIRC? Not sure if that is correct, but I was happy to see it included in my truck's tool kit. They aren't very common to find these days. It was the first one I had seen, or paid attention to anyway.

Paul: that new canopy you found looks pretty good...I really like you how found that you could move the forward part of the canopy back and trim to fit the truck...innovative and simply solution to making it fit correctly

and thanks for the measurements for the correct length wipers...the Anco contour blades 2 for 1 seem like a good deal

Robb--- You reminded me I needed to get some pics and work posted. Got side tracked this morning and afternoon with nonsense.

I found a very cool, or cool to me Brahma canopy on CL last week. It is the old school style that I really was looking for. When I talked to the guy that was selling it he gave me dimensions that sounded correct, but I could see from the pictures he sent me that the angle might be a little off on the cab side. When I went to look at it, I was sure the angle was off, but decided to get it anyway and see what I could do with it. I put it on the truck when I got home and sure enought, the front angle was off.




HMMMM what to do? I started by removing the front section that the boot gasket was attached too.

Luckily it was only some two sided tape and oversized rivets. I trimmed from 0 to 1" at the top to get the angle correct.




Turned out that the canopy was slightly too long too



I ended up deciding to take out only 3/4 of an inch more from the overall length of the canopy. This allowed a slight over hang on hte cab side of the bed, tight boot fit and a snug, but with room for thin foam gaketing at teh tailgate. When I was done I put some new rivets into it and think it came out pretty good.



Next on the list is a few cuts on the new bed for the 4x4 flares and maybe a new third member and brakes while I have the bed off the truck again.

I have always been a fan of this style of Brahma canopy. I couldn't actually believe that I found one. They are pretty rare and people dont want to give them up very often. Score me and thanks on the compliment. Your truck is coming along nicely too. I saw the fender repairs you did and ditto what Robb said, they looked pretty good to me from what we have round here. Most of the fenders have been cut to accomodate a wheeler bumper these days and after market pieces are usually crappy.

my dad just recently found a brahma topper for his 82 longer bed 4x4 and fits perfect and got it for a steal... now Im looking for one for my 81 short bed 4x4 my crappy aluminum unicover just doesnt look right

Not as old as me. Maybe you were speaking to the age of the thread. I have been pre-occupied with other projects, parting, buying and selling trucks. This is next in line and going to be getting some attention soon.

Actually working is not exactly what I would call what I do when I am in the garage next to this truck. Sitting there staring at it while I drink my coffee would be a better description. I have actually only put maybe 2-3 days work into since I got it. Too many other shiny buttons.

Who thinks this would look good with a chinook back half on it? Still debating the idea, but if I got all the pieces together, it could be fun and interesting.

I just sold the double latch bed tonight to a guy I met at pickNpull. I was glad it didn't go to scrap. I have the red bed ready to be modified to the 4x4 version. Add block out flap brackets, mud flap brackets and cuts for fender flares.

I was scraping on the scaly frame a little tonight and am wondering if I shouldn't look into maybe replacing it. Finding a stock SB frame could be a challenge.

I would like to find a California 4x4 SR5 electrical harness, but that too has proved challenging.

I saw one on CL a couple weeks ago. It was a guy that bought the cab off the wrecked 82. He completly restored his truck only to have it get stolen a week later. There is a SB frame I know about down south a couple hours for around 100 that is supposed to be rust free and completely stock.

I am a little discouraged at this point. The frame is still structurely sound, just not what a I was hoping for for overall condition. Frame off restoration was not the immediate plan. I am planning to sell it, but that won't happen right away and the plan could change. The red truck is hopefully leaving tomorrow and the Sunrader coming home on Sunday. I still have the Sunrader and a coupe other deals to get through before I make a final decision.
