Nope, still have no clue what it is. No serial # on it. I thought if I found a serial # on the Red line adapter plate that maybe I could figure out what the Carb was that way, but the adapter doesn't have a serial # either, lol. Oh well, as long as it runs good I'm happy for now!

On another note, if anyone is thinking of going with a Holley 350 2 barrel Carb, I have a brand new LCE performance spiral adapter I'm wanting to sell!

Your truck reminds me a lot of my last 83 I had. Keep up the good work, I look forward to de-smogging mine as well

Yeah, probably the best mod I've done so far, you won't regret removing all that rat nest of unnecessary vacuum lines and related components!

On a side note, I'm thinking of modifying my stock air cleaner to work with my new Carb... mainly because I don't have the funds for a new one.

I'll have to check for re-runs, I think I saw part 2 of that episode... lol that would be funny if it was the same carb!

I've driven my truck the last 3 days back and forth to work (approx. 150 miles) with no issues, and no leaks, so I'm pretty happy about that, feels good to drive it again. Well I take that back, I think my starter is going out, I have a spare I can throw on tomorrow so not a big deal, then I'll check the solenoid contacts on the old one and see if theyre getting worn. I had 2 people from work wanting to know if it was for sale, lol, I've had more people ask about my 83' than my 4runner, just shows how popular these little trucks are!

I'm kinda ticked, found a first gen parting out on CL with a good tailgate and hood, and I don't have the cash, that happens to me every time!

Lol, yeah it sounded like it hadn't been stripped down yet, lots of good parts left. My hood isn't real bad, has a couple dips in it like a little kid climbed on it. I popped them out some from the underside and made it a little better, but the main dent just pops back in. The tailgate I'm missing altogether. Its getting hard to find them in good shape, theyre either rusted out or ful of dents, I'm thinking of just building my own tailgate, but try to keep it close in appearance to the over all original design style.

If you are going to reprint then take a torch to those dents then use dry ice or just try tag dry ice

The weather finally warmed up a bit, I think it was close to 50° today! That was enough to motivate me to finally change out the starter. There was a couple times driving back and forth to work last week that I thought I was going to get stranded, I'm glad I kept the starter off my 4 runner after doing the engine swap, saved me from having to buy one. I replaced the positive battery cable while I was at it. Also fixed my passenger side mirror, the thing was rattling like crazy, I just ground off the rivet and replaced it with a small stainless nut and bolt. Nothing to exciting, but a least I got a few things done on it.

I'm definately going to have to go through the front axel, the felts are leaking pretty bad.

Both trucks are great looking. I know where a real solid 82 is that has been sitting for quite sometime. Seeing yours did not help the itch for it. The work you have in your trailer shows you do some great work. Even having a truck, trailers are still handy to have.

Thanks Terry! I know what you mean about the "Toyota itch" I'd love to have an 84-85' X-cab like you have, I've always wanted one, but had to decide between getting my 4 runner or the x-cab, I love the runners, and since i have 2 kids it made more sense, but i still have the itch for the X-cab, lol. Yeah my neighbor has a 79' that's been sitting for about 3 years, the motor is supposed to be good, needs carb work I'd like to get it, just hate to see them sit and rust, not that I need another project, lol.

^^^neighbors 79' long box

Yeah I hope to get the trailer finished before summer, I really want to build a hard tonneua cover for it and mount a roof top tent to that. Hopefully I get the funds to finish it, I started building it before I had either one of my Toyota's, lol.

Today was nice out, I worked on modifying my stock air filter to work with my 2 barrel Carb. It took a lot more work than I thought, I thought I'd just cut a circular hole to fit the Carb and be done, but the bottom of the air breather enclosure isn't flat, so I had to relief cut it and hammer it out flat, then weld in new sheet metal. I had a hard time tack welding it together without burning holes through, my welder doesn't like anything thinner than 14 gauge, maybe its the cheap flux core wire I'm using...

^^^here it is after I welded in the new metal, I ended up using black silicone on the seams got tired of burning holes in it, don't know if that's the best idea, doesn't look pretty, but as long as it functions for now till I get a better air breather.

On a side note, I have a another complete factory air breather if anyone needs one, just let me know.

If you are having trouble with burning through your welds on thinner metal you may want to try a thinner wire. If you don't weld thin metal enough to justify buying a spool of thinner wire then you can use a piece of copper or brass on the back side of the weld. A steel weld will not stick to copper or brass so an old trick is to hold copper behind the weld to support the puddle. The copper or brass will also help dissipate the heat away from the weld so you don't have to turn down the amperage as much and you can weld quicker. It also helps keep the back side of the weld flatter and reduce any dressing work you may have to do to achieve a flat surface over your weld.
