2010 Owner Needing Some Mods Where are they
I got my 2010 Magnetic Gray Trail Edition only an hour after it rolled off the truck at the dealer, I only got to drive it in the lot as it still had the plastic on in. I traded my 2005 Sport V8 and have no regrets at all. The new 4.0 has plenty of power for everything that I need. My only issue so far is the lack of aftermarket accessories for it because it is so new. I look forward to the Vendors out there coming up with some great equipment for this truck. I do not plan to do a lot but I plan to do a small lift (2 - 3") in order to get some 285's under it. Sliders and bumpers would be nice if someone is going to make them. I need to get rid of the plastic crap. If anyone has leads on accessories please speak up. I have not even been able to find Window Vent Shades for it. There are some lifts out there that vendors are saying "should fit" which I am not totally convinced as they have changed the chassis over to the PRADO platform. Until then I will wait in great anticipation

Guessing that will be an ONGOING mod. And I agree. On the other hand I just listed my 74 FJ-40 for sale over on IH8MUD.com to fund the 4runner mods.

4th Gen you traded in had Prado platform as wel...
As of aftermarket support it usually takes a few years till they kick in. See not many new owners start wheeling truck from dealer lot. Most of the guys around who wheel their trucks are buying them 2nd or 3rd hand, so aftermarket waits 3-4 years for the market to kick in their support. This one of the reasons you not buy a brand new model and wait year or so till it settle the market.
As what I've seen suspensions are very alike, so you can try to fit 4th Gen components. If you need small up to 2" lift, go with 4th Gen spacers. They are relatively cheap, so you are not loosing allot and replace them as soon as you find good lift option. You know most places which sells and installs lifts will take back lift if it doesn't fit.

You will start seeing after market stuff in the next year. I remember when the 4th gens came out it only took about a year before people had them lifted. The new body style Land Cruisers already have plenty of options for front and rear bumpers, and the from bumper is complicated like the new runner will be. Suspensions will be out much sooner than bumpers, and sliders can be tomorrow if you take it to one of the many fab shops around this forum. You also have to take into account that almost no one has these yet, which means that no shop has one yet to start taking apart. I am planning on buying one in the spring and I am feeling good that by summer we will start to see some research get done.

Does anyone know what if any change has been made to the suspension that could cause an issue. I am looking to get the ICON Stage 2 or stage 3 system that fits the 2003 up 4Runner?

We just need someone with 5th gen to pull their truck on a lift so we can look around. Just pulling coils and coilovers would be a good start just to compare and contrast. If similar, then a 2-3" simple lift would be pretty easy, enough to prob fit 285s. I have a feeling the control arms/links will be much different, so we will have to wait for some R&D for those.

I talked with Mike from ICON yesterday and he tells me that everything from the current kit will line up including rear trailing arms and front upper control arms. The only thing that will not work is the reservoir shocks he says they require a mounting adapter. I hope to sell my FJ40 then I will use that money to buy the stage 3 system from ICON.

I'm torn between sliders and running boards. I know they do seperate things....but I'd love to find a cross in between them.

You're lucky that the 5th gen is still on the PRADO design, when I got my '03, there wasn't squat for mods. I would check first before buying anything body related. It looks as if there have been a few changes in the body styles. Good choice on the ICON lift, that's where I'm heading too.
