tire wear and mileage is everybody happy or not with theirs

Tire wear and mileage is everybody happy or not with thiers.. I am buying tires soon and have done lots of research and come up with two to chose from. One however have seen lots of good reviews on but a few days ago seen proof of a bad review on the tires. 6000 miles and with almost an 1/8th of wear on them compared to a band new spare hangin on the back. The owner was very unhappy and said he has not done much wheelin just daily driving on the street Seems kinda of bad to me.. They were the nitto terra grapplers.

How about some opinions on the wear of your tires.

Any would be appreciated..

TCLONG- i have a set of nitto terragrapplers ive had them for a mth now. ii have 5000 miles on them and have NO signs of wear ( other then the lil new tire spikey thing have worn off) i can tell you this... after reading many reviews ( for what seemed to be mths) i found that these tires will wear badly if you overload them or have inproper air presure.
one of the online tire stores had reviews on them and after pages of reading i found that guys in hot weather had bad luck with them, and most were hualing 5th wheels or trailers ( look for yourself)
i also asked guys on here and most are happy with them ! i can tell you to Chalk your tires for best air pressure them most you can while still keeping a even wear of the chalk will help gas mileage and wear!

I have had the General AT Grabber 2 on my old 91 runner. Drove about 10,000 miles on them in jackson hole and around and they did great. great snow/mud tire. love them.

Just remember proper rotation will make your tires last a lot longer, no matter what brand!

I got Goodyear MTR's and they have held up decent, not as good as a pure street tire though, but, thats expected.

Well... I have a set of Kumho Road Venture MT's on my 92.
I have been very pleased with these tires. Good handling and low wear
for a mud tire. Not to mention they do very well off road.
I would recomend (sp?) these tires to anyone as an alternative to
BFG MT's simply due to price.

I second the BFG AT KO, had them now a year. On and off road, great results and the wear is amazing. Literally look almost new. Although, a good rotation pattern helps with wear. Amazing tires for there agility on and OFF the road. I like procomps as well, amazing off road but I must say after having the BFG's, Im much happier with the combined on and off road ability.

If you can, throw on the 33's. I did.

Like I always post in the tire threads: I've had 5 sets of BFG A/T's on 4different smaller 4x4 trucks (Toy/Jeep), they always wear well. Never a sidewall issue. I got 65k out of my last set of tires, and they still had almost half the tread left - was able to sell them for a few bucks. There is a reason they're popular - and it isn't just because of the name or the looks.

I decided to try the Nittos for my 2005 F350 4x4. They were about $200 less than the BFG's in 285/70/17. I've got about 8k on them, so far so good. They're really quiet, although I'm fairly certain I won't get the mileage out of them that I have with the BFG's. It isn't really an apples to apples comparison though - I regularly tow about 14k lbs.

Nittos will wear faster than BFGs but that's due to their better grip since thye are a bit softer.

I've got about 40k on my Nittos and I off road with them and I drive a bit aggressive and I'll see about 50k out of them. They are a bit worn on the edges due to my hard cornering but they are wearing even and still are pliable and still grip well. And they are much better with DD duties especially in the wet than any set of BFGs I've driven on.

I see some people get 60+k out of BFGs but I bet they are hard as a rock plus I wouldn't trust any tire older than 5 years. Actually I know BFGs wear like rocks since I did drive on a few sets over the years and by 40k they seemed to get hard and lose a bit of grip on dry pavement.

Here's mine about 1000 miles a go.....

For me, i would go Nitto in a heart beat if they just had the white lettering.

But since they don't i will most likly end up with BFG AT's when i get the $$$ for them.

I'd never put form over function but Nittos would look nice with the white lettering since currently IMO the BFGs have the best lettering of any tire.

I actually agree, but from what i have seen the performance of both tires are just about the same, each being a little better in there own reguards.

And yes, the BFG's have the best white lettering IMO as well. I had my tires flipped around to have the white lettering hace out when i got the truck, I just can't go back, it looks so much better!

Thanks guys for the input. I just want to make sure I get a tire that will last. I have never bought these brands before. Cause here in kansas the asphalt gets really hot, and you have to drive on it for a long ways to get to any real fun wheeling. And doing all this on a budget for just one set of tires.

I've had several sets of BFG's & got 60k-70k mi. out of them.(I always had the black walls out) I have the Nittos for 2k mi. now & like them a lot so far. They were about $40 each less then the BFGs so they don't have to last as long.

35,000 miles on my buckshots so far, and i'd say i'm right under 50% tread left. no one believes me when i tell them this, but due to the free balance and rotation for the lifetime of the tires from my local tire shop, i rotate/balance whenever i change the oil...just to keep it regular...and yes, chalking a tire helps a lot, as i found 35 psi is way better than the 40 i started running...
