The wheels are the Big-O Tire brand of soft 8 in 16/8 with 4.75" backspacing and they rub at full droop..... hence the wheel-spacer option.

No worries! If you decide to go with similar wheels go with a 4" backspacing instead of the 4.75" that I did. I tried to tuck the tires as much as possible and paid the price with the rubbing. I wanted a very narrow stance... guess I tried for too narrow.

Junk, I run 1.5" on all four corners and haven't have a problem. Torque them down, loctite and you're good to go!

Quick update on the new shoes. The added weight has killed 5th gear for me. I don't know how much I actually added but the combination of removing very light alloys and 31's and adding steel 16's and much larger tires now has me running in 4th gear almost 100% of the time on the highway. In town it isn't that much different.

The wheel spacers will be here tomorrow according to UPS so I'll be able to wheel it a little and offer up a critique of how they do off road.

As much as I thought this would be the last thing I'd have to do to this rig for a while it looks like a regear is going to happen in the next couple of months. Damnit I didn't want to have to spend more money on gears and lockers until much later on, if at all.

edit: I've also noticed that having the spare on top of the rig makes it drag more air so I'll be building some sort of sheet metal "ramp" or something on the front of the roof rack to help make this shoe box a little more aerodynamic. This just never ends.

Hey! I took me almost 2 years to find that visor thank you! *laugh* I love that thing. Honestly the visor doesn't do anything to keep the sun away, it just looks cool.

Thanks!! I'll be pulling the 4.56's out and dropping in a set of 5.29's with dual Aussies. The 4.56's have an Aussie in the rear and a Lockrite in the front.

so why are you getting rid of the Lockright, and why not 4.88's

do you have an automatic?

I have a 22re manual 84, planning on someday getting 33's and have been thinking 4.88's

LOL!!!! I won't have it out by next weekend. I still haven't found a set of 5.29's that I can swap in. I might have to bite the dang bullet and buy R/P sets and have them set up by someone since I don't know how to do so myself. If I end up pulling the entire third out I'll let you know.

edit: Crap I just remembered I've got a set of 4.10 thirds in the garage... I wonder if it'd be cheaper to get them regeared and lockers installed instead of paying for already locked 5.29s..... I'll look into that.

I have nothing against the lockrite. I'm hoping to find a locked set of 5.29's with Aussies that I can just swap in.

I'm going with 5.29s for two reasons.
1) I carry a lot of gear in there and would like the lower gear.
2) I know dang good and well I'll end up going with a larger tire when these wear out...... I just can't help myself.

I just put a set of 5.29's with a rear Aussie in my 4runner. Haven't driven it but a few miles but they are very nice.
