Double check. Some of them apparently didn't drive out and were a cast part of the block. Mine did, but mine's a '97.

weird how these are different so much. my 97's dipstick was in the block from the factory. It never was through the oil pump. Guess I was just lucky.

Mine's a '96, would have thought that it's a bung instead of being part of the block. Will be trying heat soon though. Also, while the truck is down, I'm looking at making my own LED front turn signals to be housed in the original casing. Could somebody with a working system give me a voltage and current reading on the signals?

Got the bung out today! Small victory.. I had initially planned on pulling the old 3.0 and dropping in the 3.4 in a day...it's starting to look like that won't happen. I'm needing more and more parts from the 3.0 that I really don't have the funds to go buy (i.e. oil pick up tube, dipstick guide) and the cleaning of the bay will be a long job. It's nasty. (the 3.4 didn't have a bezel or whatever for the end of the dipstick tube to sit in??? odd. ) Which dip stick did you guys use?

It was just stuck into the oil pump housing. The end of the tube had a rubber bushing that sealed it. Good news is that I went and bought myself a tap and die set today. Love my wife, she let me go to a tools store on our anniversary get-a-way. Love that woman!!!

This is taking longer than I had anticipated. And it's not the work, it's the money...and school. Having to put a lot more time towards school than I had planned, and I'm still broke

Got the oil pan painted and ready to bolt on, just need the pick-up tube off the old engine. Was going to do some disassembly on the Runner, but rain has set in for the weekend. Next weekend is an outta town trip, and the weekend after that is a camping trip with whitewater involved (been too long since I've been on the rapids, maybe I need the break from everything). I've got my cross over boxed up and ready to ship to toyonlyswaps.com, now just need the money.

I am doing the wiring. My ECU is for an auto, going into a manual. And the 3.4 is out of a '96 4Runner. Don't know if that's the same as yours.....

Wow. Took this weekend to go whitewater, and I work for the next few weekends in a row, and surgery in 3 weeks. Somewhere in there, I'm gonna unbolt everything and have it ready for a one day pick and swap. Anybody wanna bring an engine hoist?

Still a little confused about the dipstick guide. I don't have any kind of bung or what not to put in there. The one that came out, I've drilled a hole through it in the process of taking it out, and the end of the guide sort of fits in it....I'd just be afraid of an oil leak there. Any help would be great.

Use the clutch and flywheel set up off your old 3.0

Or did your rig start out life as a auto?
