So I haven't seen it posted on here, but is your igniter grounded good?

igniter

When I first started my engine I had a check-light on and things ran badly. The code referenced some igniter problem (I can't remember the exact result). Properly grounding the igniter took care of the rough running and the code--I've not had a code since. So, yes, make sure your igniter is well grounded.

hey thats a great thought. I used a small wire wheel on my drill to clean the metal where I mounted the ignitor as well as the surface of the ignitor itself. Smeared a bit of dialectic grease on the ignitor and tightened it down nice and tight.

However, if you do not have good grounds to your body, then all this will be for not.

I only have the ground from the manifold to the body and the block to the battery. I will add the one to the frame and see it that helps anything.

ha ah sorry for the nice picture arrangement on the last post. So this is on the harness that goes to the alternator. When i unplug this little thing and touch the harness side with the test light it is ground and makes the EFI relay click. I see that the flat part gets bolted down and one side of the plug to the harness going to the alternator but i do not know where the other plug goes. Can someone help me out here with this little do dad?

for my build that is sitting in my box of extra stuff. I never re-used it. If my alt. is going to blow up without it or something, somebody please let me know LOL.

after two years, i'm just not sure what that thing is anymore. i just know it is no longer a part of my truck. i went looking through my leftover parts and couldn't find it. i'm pretty sure it was a part of the old coil/igniter setup, but it's been so long that i just don't know. i have a plug that doesn't go to anything, and it is part of the alternator harness. i know it used to go the coil/igniter; maybe it went to the part that you have a picture of, which in turn went to the coil/igniter? i have an intermittent idle problem that sounds alot like yours, but my check engine light does not come on, except at start like it's supposed to. my code scanner doesn't pick up any pending codes either, and the truck passes emissions with no effort at all, unlike the 3.0, which gave me endless amounts of stress. i was kind of hoping that it needed to be grounded to something and that you would figure it out maybe my problem is not having the PS idle-up connected? i will be following this to see what you come up with. good luck

ID of wire assembly

As I remember, that wire assembly goes from the alt to the fender to ground. I know for sure that it came from the alt, and pretty sure the diode or whatever it is mounts to the fender. So, it is for-sure alt stuff. Mine is in a box somewhere and the truck runs fine and charges. It may be--I'll check around 'casue I'd like to know--that the lugged component is a noise/interference filter (radio) for the alt.

i am 100% positive that it is NOT part of the alternator circuit. it does come out of the same harness, but it is part of the 3.0 coil/igniter circuit.

I hooked mine up although I have no idea of its purpose. Its grounded to the fender

that is part of the ground for the coil/igniter from the 3.0.... I'm not 100% sure but I think it regulates ohms to ground or something.... also not sure if it is needed...but the all knowing engineers at toyota did put it there so.....

update***

So i have tested all the coil packs and they fine. All injectors tested good. Can anyone think of any wiring besides the obvious ones that would cause this? Maybe a wire that i missed?

I think i am going to drop the tank and see if there is a bunch of garbage in there. It runs like it is running on bad gas. Maybe sludge and junk in the bottom from sitting before i bought it and clogged fuel filter.. I am hoping that is it. I will post my results

Thanks again, and any advice will help. I just cant bring myself to take it in. I know i can figure it out eventually.

Fuel tank was clean as my you know what. So that is not the problem, i have gone over wiring diagrams seeing if i missed any.

On the 3.4 harness there is a part that is on the driver side that goes towards the back of the vehicle, does anyone know what this part of the harness goes? I had to cut it on the Donor, so i have some cut wires. I am assuming o2's, electronic transmission stuff, 4wd detection light.
Think any of the wires in that part of the harness that goes to the rear of the vehicle would cause a misfire? i can see why it would.

P0300 random misfire
P0301 misfire cylinder 1
P0305 misfire cylinder 5
P0306 misfire cylinder 6
P1300 Igniter Circuit Malfunction
