got problem

well i just put a new altinator in because my bat. guage would always read about only half way up and my bat. light and brake light wouldn't shut off unless i hit the gas real hard. or they would never even turn off. so after i put the new one in the problems went away. well they are back now and i don't know what to look at now. what else could be the cause????
thanks,
alan

your battery could be shot cause of the previously bad alternator.. or less likely, but still possible, the new alt broke from a defect by manufacture.

i don't know if any autostore does it down there, but here canadian tire will test any electrical component for you free of charge, battery, alt, whatever.

tha's a classic symptom of a bad alternator, usually it's just the brushes. since the alternator was recently replaced, you could check your alternator wiring connections to see if they are clean & tight, and still connected.

Might also want to check the belt on your alternator. Maybe you didn't tight enough and the belt is slipping causing your alt not to work properly. Check the obvious things first.

Also if you got a rebuilt alternator it is possible that it's defective. I went through 3 of those once before I got a good one. Check the other stuff first, if that doesn't pan out have the alt tested again. Good luck!

I know from experience with a customers 4runner that toyota alternators will test BAD if your battery is actually the problem. OFTEN the battery IS the problem and it burnt out your original Alternator. Replace BOTH battery and get the Alternator warrantied. Also, if your buying cheap alternators, DONT. Go buy a good one from AC DElco, Toyota or NAPA.

Was your battery dead when you started the truck up after installing the new Alternator?

Could be a bad Alternator if its one of the remaned ones, I went through a couple, they gave me free ones when mine went bad. I also got a free batery out of the deal, so I was able to check to make sure that wasn't it. Try testing it with a multimeter, first with the truck off at the battery then with the truck running at the battery. You could also check the alt with the truck running but be VERY CAREFUL as there is fans and pulleys spinning.

about 80% of all the reman alts you get at the parts stores suck and are doa... make sure yours is good.....

my bosses son bought a reman from kragens for his capri... he was like dad, it doesn the same thing again as it did before i replaced it... i overheard and told him to take it back.. he wasliek its new... i was liek take it back and make them test it.... sure enough, it was a bad new alt.....
