22-RE to 2UZ-FE in a 2nd gen 4x2 1ton
Hi guys,
Just wondering if any of you have ever done a 2uz swap in a 2nd gen 4x2.
My dad and I have a '86 Toyota Camper, with the 22re, and needless to say it needs a little more umph (It struggles to maintain 60 on flat highway).
He is a Toyota Master Tech, and agrees that we need to do something with it. I have planted the seeds of a motor swap in his head, and he seems open to the idea, but wants to know if anyone has had any success. I initially suggested a 1uz swap, but he said if were gonna do that we may as well use the 4.7 instead. What are your thoughts ? Is it possible, will it fit ? I'm also open to the idea of a 5VZ-FE swap. I would think this may be a little easier, as the '88 came with the 3VZ-E and
the mounts should fit (I would think). Our plan, if it gets into motion is to try to get the drive train from a 2wd Tundra, or Tacoma.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Justin
