my Sas'ed 01 limited 4runner now has a speedometer,!!
Well I now have a California legal/registered solid axled 2001 Limited 4Runner,!!
I bought this 4Runner from a kid about 8 months ago,, he had already spent some big $$ to have it straight axled (some of you long time subsribers will probably remember this 4Runner ,a few members in here said it could never be smogged or have a working speedometer since the ABS axle sensors were gone!! )
the kid had a CEL due to the dead speedometer issue,,so he non-op'ed it and it sat in his garage up on jack stands for months,, I got a good deal on it,, and with some internet homework and help from Steve-O on the board,, I got the speedometer to work last week,,,,, I have only drove it about 50 miles so far,, but no CEL's so far,
as for the fix, I used a Tacoma non ABS'ed VSS from the t-case, the 4Runner has a blank in the t-case where the Tacoma VSS fit, and wired it past the 4Runners VSC ecu,, worked like a champ!!
the ABS/Track systems are totally bypassed now,
I plan on removing the ABS brake mster assembly and replace it with a brake booster from a 1996,, but even with it not working the brakes work pretty well,,
so far so good,,,,,,,,

Love the shackle set up,, I have had this set up on all my Toyotas and have had no need for any track bar,, the lateral will drop off the frame about 8"s, and the swing shackle relieves the spring twist,
