4 cyl 3rd members for SAS w/ light V8 power???
Hello Yall, I traded recently for a 1989 4x4 Extra Cab Pickup, its got a Chevy 305ci V8 & TH350 auto swapped in, using the Toyta RF1A transfer case. The truck came with a set of axles out of an 80's Toyota pickup. I have a couple of questions about doing a SAS swap.
I have yet to decode the vin, but I'm thinking my truck was either a 4cyl turbo or a V6 truck according to the 3rd member housings, and this picture below. My truck has the 4cyl turbo/6cyl type 3rd members.
Now my questions:
The set of 80's axles I mentioned above. They have 4.11's in them w/ 4cyl 3rd members. The Chevy 305 V8 in my truck is stock, save for an Edelbrock aluminum intake and a Holley carb.
1. Would the 4cyl 3rd members be strong enough to handle the mild power that the Chevy V8 is putting out. I'm only looking at running 33's or 35's, or maybe old Hmmwv 36's, if I can find some 6lug 16.5 rims.
2. I'm not sure what gears are in the 3rd members currently in my truck but since the 4cyl turbo/6cyl 3rd members are stronger then 4cyl 3rd members, could I use the 3rd member in the ifs that's in my truck in the solid axle housing?
3. The front axle (which I don't know what model year it is), is missing the right side axle shaft, right brake backer plate, both spindles and both locking hubs. Not to mention I would still need to get lift springs front and rear, front spring hangar kit, shock loops and hi-steer kit. There is also the issue of calipers, could I use the stock calipers that are on my 89 now or would I have to get some others? Would it really be worth doing a SAS to my truck?
I ask question 3 because my truck has a 4" Superlift kit on it now. Blocks in rear, ifs kit up front. I'm not into real serious wheeling, but I know of the stories of others breaking ifs parts, that and the Superlift ifs kit has a couple of broken parts in it now that I have to fix.
My truck, named it Cletus! Thanks for any help, advice and suggestions.

question 1: the diff will break last, it's the birfields and axle shafts you might wanna upgrade
question 2: the ifs 3rd is 7.5" and the solid axle is 8"---so you won't be able to use it
question 3: the ifs calipers will fit but you will need the proper rotors which can be bought new fairly cheap from most vendors
I'm in the process of doing a SAS and the axle rebuild and hangers and misc. parts gets expensive quick, if you don't plan on hard wheeling/crawling..maybe just upgrade/replace the ifs components, will be the cheaper option most likely
