reg cab vs xtra cab 84/85

I am looking at two different trucks right now and would like some info on the two.

1. 1985 22RE 4x4 single cab 5 spd short bed
2. 1984 22R 4x4 xtra cab 5 spd short bed

Where does the length for the xtra cab come from? Increased wheelbase or is the bed shorter?

Thoughts on R vs RE? The 84 is cleaner and I really like the xtra cab plus its got bucket seats and full gauges. But that injection and power steering are tempting. But an RE conversion is pretty straightforward and parts are easy to find so it may be a moot point.

There is no functional difference between the two years, correct? Drivetrain and axle strength the same?

Thanks for any help!

Personally I like the standard cab short bed. But I own one haha. Buddies have xtra cabs. I have noticed no dif instrength but if your intended use is a crawler or offroad rig the short wheel base is a plus. I also prefer a carb. For me its less to worry about because I. Can handle any carbed engine. Just my 2 cents

It kinda depends on what you are going to do with it, if it is going to be a hard wheeler, you might want to think of the 85 because if the 84 is real clean, you are gonna be sore from sphincter puckering on the first few dents.
