Also, due to ice storm wrath, I will have a chainsaw with me, but if someone else has one too, please bring it. I have a feeling downed trees will be common.

Good idea!
I'll see if I can get mine started. Might even buy it a tune-up!
We might end up using tow strap & chain a lot to just drag stuff off the trail.

Indeed. Ordered it last night, and my gasket will be here tomorrow from Toyota for a few bucks.

Ok, you all can meet at 8, but whoever wakes me up that early is getting run over. That includes Cory's neighbors dogs. I've had an entire week of 6am conference calls and I need sleep or I'll start doing really stupid things on the trail

No, that's ok. If it was the pinion seal leaking I'd question whether you needed a new pinion bearing as well. Or u-joints.

That seal you're talking about I haven't seen linked to any other failures.

I've replaced the pinion seal once too... is there something I should have looked for while i was doing that?

I'm just got out of school... so im going to further inspect... i'll be back...

EDIT: Well, it looked moist up by the pinion seal and u-joint too... i just saw a bead earlier by the main seal... i wiped it all up and i'll check before i leave for work here shortly and see where its wet. Should I get another pinion seal just in case and do that while we're down there?

Hmmmm, so you've already replaced the seal once and it's leaking again? Yeah, grab a new seal and we'll slap it in there. Long term, you may have another problem that's causing the leak. I've have experience that whenever I have a u-joint go bad in the rear driveshaft (and I invariably put 1000+ miles on the vehicle before repairing it) the pinion seal starts to leak. The same could be said for pinion bearings. My theory is the stress and vibration from a bad u-joint further deflects the end of the pinion, causing it to move in an orbital manner prematurely wearing the seal. On the pinion bearings, as they wear the pinion will be allowed to deflect more, again, wearing the seal.

Or it could all be a coincidence.

Well, I called up Rocky Road today to get the status of my order... they now tell me it's going to ship the 22nd. Oh joy! I ask why... They tell me the it's not made yet. "Uhhh you mean you don't have them in stock?" No sir, we don't. "Uhh why was I not aware of this?" Well, we drop ship them from the manufacturer and It'll be made next week and shipped the 22nd. WTF?! "So you mean my unit doesn't even exist yet?" That's correct. Again WTF?!. I'm quite pissed off now. So I won't have my locker this trip after all. Had they told me my unit doesn't even exist yet, I would've ordered it elsewhere. AUGH!

see if you can get your money back, and get it from somewhere else... tell them you needed it for a competition, and having it later does you no good. Its worked for me.

I called them back again, and they said they'd "try their best" to pull one early and have it shipped here by friday. I asked about overnight shipping and the kinda went "Well... we.... murmur murmur numa numa" So I'll call them back a couple times and ride their butts about it.

Honestly though, is it really gonna happen.

More than likely not. Any suggestions to make it more likely?
