That's what they all say ... no really they do. And I bet he is also your best friend and will only sell you a vehicle in YOUR best interest

There is only one way to find out, configure the vehicle on the CostcoAuto website (only takes a few minutes) take the print out to your dealer and say here you go, smash this. Then see how much he can beat it by. Or ... maybe not show it to him at all and see what he comes up with first. I would at least use the configuration as a reference to know if you are getting a good deal or not.

Then again, Costco may not have the buying power they have here in Southern California as they do in your neck of the woods. I have also used www.CarsDirect.com before when I purchased my 4Runner back in 2001 and I beat the local dealers by at least $2000, but when I went to buy my wife's car last July I found that Costco did even better.

I guess I just like the convenience of it as well, not haggling over the price and all. I go there expecting a certain price and that's what I get.

I will try that.
And...after mucho thought, I am going to stick with my dealer, even it if takes a few more months.

Why???
I called the other dealer today to see if they had any in.
They have a demo, and they have a blue one that someone backed out of that is coming in soon.
I do not want blue.
This is a huge dealer too, and all the ones coming into them are pre-sold.
That is pretty much how it is around here.

He said he could order one for me, and I asked how long to get it.
Two to three months.
Not worth my time, as the one I have on order now should be built hopefully before to long.

I think it is best to just sit on this dealer I have been dealing with.
Thanks for the tip on Costco though, I will try that.

I agree on the waiting deal ... if you have to have it ASAP its nice to know you have one on order already.

I am holding out to see the specs on the TRD Edition.

Ooooook, here be the latest.
I emailed the sales manager yesterday with an URL to fjcruiserforums site with a thread from a Canadian who lives North of me on Vancouver Island.
He ordered his FJC after me, and he just got it this week!

Sales manager said my delay is the result of us changing my order after it had been put in already.
I am not sure if this is totally valid or not.
But here is how it played out.

Initially I ordered a bare bones rig with just the rear locker, alloy wheels, and the clinometer cluster.
Well it turns out you can not order the cluster alone, you need to purchase expensive packages to get stuff together like a rear wiper, the cluster, and other goodies.
So we had to add on the CQ package, and also upgrade package #1.
The latter includes the rear locker, A Trak, and the alloy wheels.

I am calling Friday to see if it got built yet, and if not I will be contacting Toyota Corporate to get to the bottom of this.

Stay tuned...

Yes!

Just got off the tele with the sales manager.
He called the lady in charge of builds, and she says my rig is due to be built next week.

She is thinking it will arrive July 10th to the 15th, somewhere in there.
That may be the port though, which is in Portland, OR.
I added a roof rack and hitch to the order a few days ago, so it will hold it up at port for a day or two.

I just may get to drive this by the 20th or so of July.
So a little more than a month it looks like.
If there is a delay, you can be sure corporate will hear about the delays.

I added the roof rack because I can not depend on Yakima to come up with a mounting system for the roof.
They are to slow, and have no desire to look into the FJ right now

I will get stuff fabbed up to hold the hi-lift, shovel, and a jerry can up there.
I know AJ has already made some nice mounts for jerry cans that you can mount up there.

Oh, AJ also was suppose to ship my sliderz today :bounce2:

Do you have a list of mods that you are going to do first? (Obviously since your sliderz are on their way, that seems to be first, but what about the next couple of things?)

Jim, a ride will be in order!
_____________________________________

Bink, here is a short list, no order of preference, with the exception of the sliderz, they will be first.
1. Sliderz
2. CB radio from 4Runner, and the mount the "Bandi" mount to the rear tailgate for the CB antenna.
3. Shoe horn the tank and box in the back.
4. Aux. fuse box under the hood for additional wiring jobs like I did in the 4Runner.
5. Alpine W200 (non navigation) or the Eclipse 6600 dual DVD and navigation double din stereo.
This will be next year, maybe with Xmas bonus.
The Rockford Fosgate 500a2 and JL W6 15" sub will be wired into the deck if there is room in the FJ for the sub.
Gosh I hope so, once you have a 15 incher pound your back (now keep it clean ) it would be very hard to go to a smaller woofer.
Been running the 15 since around 2000.
It thumps, it bumps, it gives me a back massage.
6. Dual battery setup from this guy.
7. Mount the Hi-lift, shovel, and axe to the stock rack some how.

I hope to have the rig ready and broken in for the Fall Colors Run we try to plan for late September/early October to get a good feel of it off road.
Probably will not take it off road until after a month.

I want to spend the first few days just driving it around visiting people.
Then after a few weeks get it all waxed up.
It will be nice to go for drives, have not done that in ages since my 4Runner only gets used to go back and forth to work and the grocery store.
It simply does not run well enough to do anything else.

It is going to feel so good having something brand new.

Some of these mods will appear as write-ups in the Tech section.

Rob, I do not know where else to put the gas can unless I do a custom rear bumper down the road.
Been seeing some over on Muds forum.
I also hear ARB may be coming out with a rear bumper.
Not sure if it will have a swing away tire carrier and gas can mount though.
But the one AJ @ Bentup made looks pretty darn good.
Looks like you just have to drill new holes in the bottom to match up with the crossbars on the Toyota rack.

Oh PS...

How can I forget?
New tires to replace the cheap passenger rated tires.
Toyota was really cheap on this part.

I will use the trusty Les Schwab Wild Country TXRs.
They last forever, and are great in snow.
Been running the same set on the rig here since around 2000 or 2001, and they look brand new still tread wise.
TXRs wear like iron.

The Toyota ordering system is designed to accommodate dealer orders...if the dealer enters it before the monthly cutoff date for the following month's build. It sounds like your dealer missed the May cutoff when you upgraded the package.

The irritating part is that what you ordered is the most popular model/package/color combo coming into the region. Usually dealers help each other out with dealer trades to fill sold orders. But, when certain models are sold out, they may not trade in hopes of stealing the other dealer's customer. Prolly what's going on here.

IOW, corporate will say about the same thing. It really is the dealer's responsibility to enter the order properly and timely.

Oh the pain, the agony...
There be a voodoo blue one in my works parking lots right now.
Running boards, spare tire cover, clinometer cluster...

First FJ I have seen up close with the exception of the dealerships.

And here I thought I would be the first at this job site to have one.

I saw a burgundy one this morning, complete with Spock's coffin mounted up on the rack.

That was the best looking color yet!

Yakked with the local dealer by my work, they have a yellow one in someone backed out of.
But this dealer is a rip off.
They are selling at MSRP, and the rig has more on it than I want.

If mine does not come in soon, I am scrapping the idea of getting one until maybe the 08s come out.
These are simply to much in demand now, and most of the ones you see on the streets are decked out like a White House Xmas tree, with all the trimmings.

To rich for my blood.

Just spoke with my dealer...temp VIN # is in with my info.
This means it is movig to the line for the humans and robots to perform their mojo on it

I also asked about a possible dealer trade, and they will try, but really, they are very scarce here, especialy the way I want mine equiped.

He did dig the pics I sent to him of my new Bentup sliderz.
Not the couch though.
Yeah, I gotta work on that some day...
The longer couch is in much better shape.
The cats seem to like shorty better.
