Alternator issues?

I have a 83 Yota pickup with the 22R and the engine is running off the battery only. I had the alternator checked and they said it was fine, so I got a new voltage regulator. The alternator is still not charging the battery. I have gone as far as to replace several of the wires going to the battery with a larger gauge, hoping this would fix the problem. I'm stuck and frustrated. Please HELP!!!

Check the wiring from the voltage regulator and from the alternator and if you see no problems at all with any of it seems to me it is the aternator, that is about the only other thing left in the system. Also, make sure all the grounds are good and tight on every component.

check the charge fuse first.
Wiggle the connections when the truck is running and see if it starts to charge i just did this to my truck, leave a multimeter on the battery so you can see if it starts to charge.

Mine was the connection on the back of the alt it got bumped when i moved the alt to the side to do my timing chain.

hey guys, I've checked all of my wiring and it was fine. I also checked the fuse and it was fine. Lastly I put a new alternator on and I'm still not getting a charge. Is the only thing left for me to do is go through the entire wiring harness?

Either your alternator is not getting "excited" meaning it has no voltage supplied to the regulator during engine running condition so it knows to charge or you have an output problem. Do you have ~13.8V while idling? If so good. Do you have that at the battery? If so you wouldnt be posting so obviously not. Find where it is losing by tracing it from alt to bat.

If not getting excited find where the ignition supply is not getting to regulator.

5 spd truck and I don't have hardly any volts coming out of my brand new alternator and brand new regulator. I've even just got a new battery. I'm almost to the point of breakin down and taking it to the dreaded repair shop!

what exactly is "hardly any volts"? What is the voltage on the back of the alternator charge post output when the engine is running? What is the voltage at the battery when the engine is running?

Talking

When you say you checked all the wires just what did you do??

I have seen the female plug on the alternator get so full of corrosion it will not conduct it does not take much . Spray this with some electrical cleaner.

The wire that comes off the B terminal of the alternator has a tendency to get brittle with age and does not conduct as it should . Replace the whole wire with new 8 gauge wire. Or bigger if you desire.

another thing these ground cables pretty much suck from new I up grade mine with number 1 welding cable . Which cures no end of charging and starting issues.

well, i finally took care of it. It is alittle rigged, but i'm getting 14.5 volts off the alternator now. I bought a 1983 Toyota Celica alternator with an internal regulater and wired it from scratch. I found out that several of my wires were burnt that were going from the alternator to the regulator and to the battery. They were burnt in places that i didn't originally see, so I turned a mole hill into a mountain on this one. The good news about all of this mess is that I'M FINALLY BACK ON THE TRAILS!
