So a day ago my batt light came on. I checked the voltage at the battery- it was just over 9v with the engine running. So this morning I replaced my alternator. After replacement, the battery read 13.9v with the engine running. But it's slowly going down. Drove to oreily's to have my battery checked and they say it checked out good. Any idea why my alternator isnt charging the battery? Could it be a bad alt out of the box? Alt is the best one Napa had- I didnt cheap out and get the least expensive I could find. Is there a fuse somewhere I should check? Lol and of course the battery just died on my multimeter...

Was your battery fully charged ??

I have known discharged batteries to kill alternators take out diodes

all the connections good and tight.

you did have your negative cable disconnected when installing the alternator??

When you say its slowly going down, you mean from 13.9 volts? While running?

If your battery voltage was 9 VDC the ECM would have shutdown more then likely.

You had it checked or you just took the battery to be checked ??

so the whole system was not checked.

Well what did happen??
