Grant Signature Series Aftermarket Steering Wheel Install

I’ve seen a bunch of posts about Aftermarket Steering Wheels but did not see a complete write up on one so I decided to do this write up. The process is self-explanatory however there a couple of small tricks involved that will make someone’s life easier and spare the headache of having to have to take the steering wheel off and put it back on.

My Car
1993 2WD Toyota Pickup

Equipment Needed
- Phillips Screwdriver
- 19mm socket
- 7/16” socket
- 1-2” socket extension
- 1/8” Hex Wrench

Materials Needed
- 3584 Grant Steering Wheel Hub Adapter
- GRT4000? Grant Steering Wheel Spacer
- Grant Signature Series Steering Wheel

Instructions

Step 1: Remove the screw at the bottom of the steering wheel.

Step 2: Pull horn portion of the steering wheel up and remove the horn wire.

Step 3: Use a 19mm socket and remove the center nut

Step 4: Rock the steering wheel back and forth until it frees from the center bolt. I have read that some people have a hard time getting the steering wheel off. If this is your case, a steering wheel puller is necessary.

Step 5: If you are pulling the steering wheel off, make sure to thread the nut back onto the center bolt. This will ensure you don’t smack your face with the steering wheel.

Step 6: Attach the hub to the steering wheel spacer with the 3 bolts. This can also be done after you install the hub on the center bolt. The bolts do not have to be completely torqued at this time.

Step 7: Orient the turn signal ring in order to align with the holes on the hub. I had to drill through the ring on the hub since it blocked the holes. I am not sure if this will be the case for everyone as I purchased my hub from the junkyard and could have been tampered with. I didn’t find this out until later after I put the steering wheel on and had to take it off, drill the holes out, and put the steering wheel back on. A completed PITA.

Step 7: Screw the center nut hand tight. Tighten the three bolts that combine the hub adapter and spacer together.

Step 8: Place the horn ring over the wire. Line up the holes of the steering wheel, horn ring, and hub spacer. Screw the 5 hex bolts in the steering wheel using the 1/8” hex wrench. Tighten the center nut.

Step 9: Attach the horn wire to the non-ground prong and place into the hole. The horn will use the extended copper colored wire as a ground.

Step 10: All Finished!
