Which way is up? copper cylinder Head Shim!

Hey Peoples! LOL! Any of ya ever use a Copper shim with a headgasket on a 22RE? Does it go between the block and the Headgasket or the Cylinder Head and the gasket?
Thankyou Thankyou!
Rick

generally not a good idea either unless you had a LOT taken off the head.

ended up ordering a thicker head gasket. yeah the head was machined a few times. the thicker gasket brought it to within .003 of factory thicknes.
decided not to use the shim becuase I figured two gasket surfaces was better than 4 or 3 depending on how you think about it.
