wants a quiet muffler now
ok, I'm running the Downey CAI, header and 2.5" exhaust system on my 95 22RE truck. I've had it on for a few years now. I'm happy with the quality of the header but I'm tired of the loud exhaust tone. I got better throttle response, and better gas mileage after the upgrade and some days I do like to tromp the gas peddle, but I don't get a commensurate increase in speed corresponding to increase in sound.
So, I'm ready to tone it down. Should I reinstall the factory exhaust system? Change the muffler or do I have to change the cat & muffler together? as a minimum I want to drop down to a 2" system.
I was told by the guy behind the counter at the muffler wholesaler, nothing short of the factory exhaust would quiet down my truck.
Was he pulling my leg?

ya i had a thrush turbo and it was quiet. my parents just put some muffler my truck thats really quiet today. idk what it is though. it looks like a glasspack but its a steel muffler inside. but i know its a 2.5" in/out muffler. if you want i can stop by and ask what it is. lol

to you guys saying that thrush turbo is quiet, I am not too sure about that because mine drones horrible with the weber/downey header/268 cam and no cat w/ 2.25" piping. Somewhere on here is a video of mine. If you want to you can search to find it.

my high school said i wasn't allowed to drive on school property any more and pulled my parking pass because my "muffler" was to loud.and xxxtreme your prolly right but when i had mine it was because i got a ticket for having a 8" glasspack. so im basically comaparing the thrush turbo i had to all of my glasspacks and straight pipes i had in the past

don't get me wrong, it's loud inside the cab but still has a good tone to it and on the outside just a little raspy at higher revs to where I had to put a 3" resonator tip on it to take out some of the rasp out of it.

not sure if a 22re and 3vz is different, but my truck has headers, no cat, 2.25 piping, with a borla. piped all the way out. and its louder than it needs to be.

i have a good suggestion... me and my dad just put a new muffler on his ranger thinking it was gonna be loud, but it wasnt at all. its probably only a few decibels louder then stock, and it sounds just like stock, the only difference is its deeper...it sounds exactly the same inside the cab, but from outside you can tell its deeper and louder (but really not much louder at all). lol, and it does pop and crackle if you rev it to like 5-6k rpm.
its a dynomax super turbo. its on a 4.0 v6, so idk if it will have a different effect on a 4cyl. it increases mpg and hp over stock though, i did notice that
